Totally hyped up,, not so grt documentary
by ppr on Mar 04, 2010 12:12 AM

The movie seems like a sequel to the documentary “ Vaaranam Aayiram “ rather than “ the most brilliant work after minnale” as claimed by some movie reviewers in other sites. The narrative monologues from the lead characters have been overdone and the irritating background score has to be mentioned.
The only saving grace is Simbu and Trisha’s stellar performances. Simbu is like fresh breath of air – he’s portrayed the pain, love and raw emotions so needed for Kartik’s role. Trisha is brilliant and mature throughout the movie. But no movie can be good if its bones –it’s foundation is not good. The movie is brilliant only in miniscule parts.
At the end of this painfully ,long movie watching episode, all that struck me was how many people actually got fooled by glowing reviews and wasted $ 25 worth of wages on a no – show. My love for sensible ,interesting Tamil cinema and supposedly good directors took a dip ,after watching this movie .
Verdict: Pothum da Saami, Alai vidunga

Sucks for most part
by Sangili Appan on Mar 03, 2010 08:13 AM  | Hide replies

Same dialogues over and over... The movie does not have a good flow. The whole movie could be just 1 hour long, not 2.5!

Ending is practical though, since many girls are like Trisha :) but who wants to watch practical movies? People love it only when the hero and the heroine join at the end... the movie will leave many 'senti' folks quite sad!

A.R.Rehman's music is not as great as one would expect! Have anacin with you, just in case the movie and/or the music get too boring!

Simbhu talks like a zombie.
Trisha is ok
AR is good
Gautham sucks.

Cliche rotten love story. Trying to recreate Alaipayuthe feel, Gautham fails miserably.

I haven't seen a movie were the Music Director Steals the Show. Gautham/cinematography and actors have done a gr8 job too. ARR-this is why they call you THE BEST.

One of the Finest Film made by Gautham Menon

WE saw this movie yday, swear by words it has got its own spell bounding moments, truly mesmeric screenplay/script,magical music & pulsating background score, visually extravaganza, most underrated lead performers & eye catchy outfits

AR Rahman Rocks,big-time & no sheer doubts it especially Hosanna (Trisha looks ultra cool in those color blended saris,Superb choreography),Mannipaaya (Shreya ur the best & above all Rahman rockd n this duet, best of the lot),VTV Theme,Aaromale (Joseph Superb),Omanapenne,For instance Abt the background score in the climax when he knocks her door (made our hearts beat faster)

Trisha at her bestform..beautiful,eye catchy, matured as an actress..she really looks so gorgeous in the following scenes especially
1)White Marriage Sari ~ From the church entry, to arguing with her dad & where she declares love to simbhu..shes truly an angel
2)In the song "Anbil Avan"..when simbhu marries in front of the balaji temple at US.She looks ultra gorgeous
3)In the sequence where Simbu & Trisha Confronts during the climax sequence in the park, Wow wow she looks hot in that Black outfit ...

Simbhu career's best turmoil character..he outshines, wht has being offered..

Gautam.,u r the real genius & we r proud of ur beautiful work..Such an painstaking(infact painful)movie with very much positive & lighter moments.,extravagant,spectacular.,Inshort.,I m Speechless abt ur beautiful effort

NaliniSriram,ManojParamhansa..Gr8 Job & Hats off

Gd Harris has'nt done this movie

Yes Vinu you are absolutely right. I feel that the music in Varanam Ayiram is the best of Gautham's films. VTV is good but not for all songs and also nothing extraordinary as many of them have said. Had Harris done this movie, it would also have been good.

guess we didn't watch the same movie. i m sure u also say seven samurai and sholay have the same story. just becos u can't distinguish the nuances of a movie and see it as a one line story doesn't mean everyone sees it that way

I've watched both movies. I don't have a problem with pointing out if the movie is a direct copy. Just because both these movies have similar plots, you are calling them the same. That is my problem. Here are some key differences that make the movies different.

1. Jessie is completely overwhelmed by love for Karthik. In 500 days, the girl likes him but never feels the same way he does.
2. In 500 days, the relation runs its course, while here social circumstances force the end.
3. In 500 days, the story is said in a way that makes you believe they are exactly the best match for each other. Here the movie clearly shows they don't fit any social "criteria". But they tend to believe love conquers all.
4. In 500 days, the girl doesn't waver. The only time she gets truly mad is when the guy punches the jerk in a bar. Other times she seems to be happy with him till the end. It is made that way so that people can understand the guy sees just the good times. It is almost the opposite here in VTV.

Above all, movies like 500 days, Before sunrise, Before sunset, My dinner with Andre, Conversations with another woman, 2 days in Paris are all based on dialogues. So is VTV. As long as the dialogues are powerful and captivating, these movies work. If you have a problem with the repetitive dialogues here, I can accept that the movie is dragging. But to say that it is an exact copy of 500 days just makes me think you lack the skill to understand nuances.
