Are critics wary of writing a balanced review of a Pixar movie? The movies are technically brilliant with well written adult themed stories not dumbed down for kids. Somehow, one comes out feeling that something has been held back in order to make that sure-fire feel-good Hollywood hit.
Compared to the complex stories of masters like Miyazaki which are honest and relentless, Pixar does seem toeing a Disney-esque line.
//it must be remembered that Up also has a Best Picture nomination, which means other well-reviewed contenders like Coraline and Fantastic Mr Fox stand a chance.// Does it mean that if Up wins best film category (however unlikely it may be), it won't be winning the category for animated film? Poor logic, I shall say. Whatever that may be, I think Mr.Fox can give Up a run for its Oscar, mainly because its been really long since a stop-motion animation film has won.
