RD Burman is the most over rated music director, most of his tunes are plagerised.

you need to authenticate the statement, or be a little more informed. Kindly give a list of those inspirations, as you say most of his tunes were plagiarised.

Dear Shivaji,
It's a proven fact that most of RD Burman's songs have been a copy. Infact many other music directors have plagiarised as well.
I also didn't believe until i visited this site plagiarism archive com

With all respect to S D Burman, then come Shankar-Jaikishen, O P Nayyar.....rest of list is okay. But Keep Anil Biswas out of this rating. Because He was like a teacher who set many rules of film music.

Beside Roshans, there were much better Music Directors which deserve much higher position in the above list i.e. C. Ramchandra, Ravi, Shyamal Mitra, Sudhir Phadke, Ramlal etc. who have composed fewer but melodious scores for Hindi movies.

The greatest music director from south
by musician on Dec 02, 2010 02:56 PM  | Hide replies

S D Burman was great in his own way, well he did had guts to even refuse lata and promote asha. There was one reputed music director in the south, S Rajeswara Rao, - this man was such that he took his own time to compose tunes and producers used to wait until tunes were given by Mr. Rao. Once the tunes were given they were definite hits. In between if any producer or actor questioned Mr. Rajeswara rao on the tunes whether they have been composed, Mr. Rao used to cancel the offer with the producer and quit. Such was his straight forwardness and he composed music for numerous films in telugu. He learnt hindusthani music from none other than saigal and preferred only two singers for his compositions , rather he preferred only them because Mr. Rao thought only those singers could do perfect justice to his compositions and they were the great ghantasala and P suseela from the south. In fact, Mr. Rao was never satisfied with any other singer, save ghantasala and he rated him as the greatest ever playback singer. Even Mr. Rao used to advise Mr. Balamuralikrishna, the great carnatic music legend. Such was Mr. Rajeswara rao's vision as a musician - all his songs are major hits, Critics while admiring the great skills of Mr. Rao claim that due to the speciality of ghantasala's voice and skills, Mr. Rao could achieve such success as music director and say that majority of ghantasala's songs under his music direction are hits.

Mr. Rao was another great MD like the SD of the hindi

Re: The greatest music director from south

S Rajeswara Rao was a great music director - telugu films - yes, to a large extent his success could be attributed to ghantasala being the singer for most of his songs. Even mohd rafi of hindi was not preferred by Rajeswara rao, as Mr. Rao was satisfied only with ghantasala for his music vision and songs. He was firm that except ghantasala no other singer can bring perfection to his songs similar to his liking. But astonishingly, ghantasala easily exceeded expectations of Mr. Rajeswara Rao. Mr. Rao was also responsible for making P suseela famous through some of his famous songs. Even the greats of hindi rafi, lata etc. did attempt some songs in telugu, but never under any of the great telugu music directors for whom ghantasala, in those days, virtually was the only playback giant.

S D burman was well known for his hindi songs, a sophisticated music director, and who was really to be credited to brought out the skills of singers such as kishore kumar etc. to the world of playback singing. But i think Mr. Rajeswara rao songs and music direction skills are far ahead of S D Burman of hindi. Hence, I feel no comparison between both should be made.
