Reminding an unfortunate incident
by ACHINTA ROY on Dec 02, 2010 12:19 PM  | Hide replies

Chittagong is now a foreign land belonging to a muslim fundamentalist country. So, Master-Da's and his teams' sacrifice were thrown into the Bay of Bengal by our Indian power hungry leaders. Hence, this film should be a further blow to our old deep routed wound. Also, in Bangladesh, India's freedom struggle is not purposely taught to the young generation.

Its not that Bangladesh has forgotten the scarifices of Surjya Dada's and kids but it is India who has forgotten Bangladesh.
India is always favouring Pakistan, espicially people from the Film industry, They always talk about Pakistani's contributing towards oversea's box office, but we bangladeshi's are never mentioned like we do not exist (Me and my friends go to the cinema to watch indian movies). So my friend please do some research and give us some respect for a change. The people who are privleged like me back home do indeed follow indian history i.e. Bhagat Singhji, Sukhdevji. P.S. Bangladeshi's are not fundamentalists, they are more cultural than religious (similiar to kolkata's Bengali's). Nearly 20% (15 million) of Bangladesh's population is hindu.
Homework of the day? Any guesses how many hindu's live in Pakistan?

Naz, I think it is not 20%, it is 8 to 10%. And, I regularly read the bengali new paper Ittefaq. They do not even mention about Surjo Sen on his Birthday. Not a single article. I sent one email to Ittefaq regarding this. They did not respond. Could you please enlight us regarding how many people in Bangladesh know about Surjo Sen?

Debajyoti, my friend you are missing the point! my maths is really weak, so there is no point going into estimation (because like my maths your english is very poor - Surjya not Surjo). I cannot provide evidence of how many people know Surjya Dada because as you might not be aware that literacy is really low in Bangladesh due to a lot of factors such as poverty, natural diasters, and most of all corrupt politicians. Only a fortunate segment get a proper education and education itself enligtens us on these issues. for your information Bnagladeshi people are most contented people in the world despite thier hardships according to a validated research. But my main point was why are we always sidelined, why are we never mentioned anywhere in Indian media? Pakistani's are often backed wholeheartedly, why is the media obbsessesed in bridging the gap between india and pakistan. Pakistan refused to let the great Lata didi perform in thier country. Chunkey Panday was welcomed with open arms in Bangladesh and became a star.
Second point is that why are we always called fundamentalist like pakistanis?, we have more in common with india than pakistan. So please everyone do not bring in your biases and prejudices while judging another country. Thanks.
P.S. Ittefaq might run by people who have their own biases and agendas.

(1) Regarding my English knowledge - This forum is not an exam panel to determine my knowledge in english. You can spell anybody's name with any form based on his/her consent. However, according to modern Bengali grammer, the extra 'y' of 'Surjyo' can be removed. I have never read any article (you did?) from where I can get to know how Master-da would spell his name.
(2) You still did not specify an idea how that historical incident is reminded in Bangladesh. I an asking from the school education (history syllabus), do they start the history from Mukti Juddho only? I am asking because I least idea about your country's education. Please answer. Do not take it from your heart, I want to know the FACT.

I agree as well as with you, Naz, on "Bangladeshi's are not fundamentalists, they are more cultural than religious ". However, your mentioning that Indians supporting Pakistan is not entirely true - It is only a segment (I'd say, a small "Fundamentalist" segment) supports Pakistan.

Militant
by prasoon chaudhary on Dec 02, 2010 10:19 AM

So many messages on using 'militant' word, strange!

According to wikipedia -

The current meaning of militant does not have to (and in fact usually does not) refer to a registered soldier; it can be anyone at all who subscribes, either in whole or in part, to the idea of using violence to achieve some larger objective, usually political.

A militant can, but not necessarily, engage in violence as part of a claimed struggle against oppression. Militant can refer to an individual or to groups displaying the aggressive behavior or attitudes.

For more elaboration, search 'militant' on Wikipedia!! :-)

People here are looking like upset by the usage of word "Militant" against Surjya Sen ... But, any pre-independence movement led by people who were not endorsed/supported by our "sanctimonious" father of nation and "sexmaniac" first prime-minister have been described as "Terriorist/Militant" by Cong sponsored or lenin-loyal historians ... So, I am not at all shocked to see this accolade for Surjya Sen ... This self-deprecation is exactly why we are continuously falling into the abyssmal depth of destruction day in and day out ... I only pray that we have more of these type of militants to free us from an Italian Mafia and a Spineless puppet PM ...

Thank you Mr. Gowarikar

I want to thank Mr. Gowarikar for making this movie. When 90% of hindi films are Hollywoood remakes he has made film based on an original incident. There are millions of Indian Freedom fighters who had fought for India's feedom without caring for fame and fortune. They never found place in our history books but only in memoirs. Thank you once again Mr. Gowarikar for this movie.

Rediff withdraw the word MILITANT from this article or I will file an FIR against you for using abusing words for a freedom fighter. If you take this lightly you will see the heat of it very soon.
