huh?

like someone below said, rediff rates the original film 4.5 and a re-release with 10 extra minutes, 2?

film critics in general seem to have a compelling need to watch movies differently from normal audiences. it's like, if you don't like a movie everyone else likes (or love something few would care for), you are a great critic.

avatar was all about "technical brilliance, Cameron's imagination of the Pandora and the world of Na'Vi, and the cinematography". nithya ramani will perhaps look for a script in the taj mahal or the niagara falls, and rate them 1.5/5 since they don't have any. some things are visual spectacles, and people make effort to watch them. who told you movies need great scripts? movies need to entertain. some of them do that by moving you, some of them do that by engaging you, some of them do that by creating spectacles that take your breath away.

indeed, it's far more difficult to make a movie that pleases 95% of moviegoers and makes money (which is why so few movies make money), than to make a movie that pleases a rediff critic.

i know people who could churn out scripts similar to Aamir (a supremely lousy movie that rediff's critics went gaga over - and it's not like i don't like any slow movies), at the rate of 1 per day. they don't find producers. and for good reason.

the criterion to pick a movie reviewer for a newspaper/website, in my opinion, should be, how many movies he/she likes. not how many he/she

This is how I would rate this article. Ramani obviously isn't cut to be a film critic.

If the length of the movie increases by 10 minutes, then rediff's rating falls from 4.5 to 2 stars !! Hats off to rediff's thesis.

" I wasn't too impressed with the original or the re-release" I am not sure what it takes to impress this intelligent and smart reviewer. It is not as if you have achieved a whole lot in your life by becoming a film critic on rediff. I mean heck if there weren't movies like Avatar made you would be out of your job. Keep your stupid arrogance aside for a minute and try to review this as an average moviegoer, if you can't do that I suggest you hand in your notice and look for some other stimulating career.

there is a famous say...once a few bunch of people start appreciating the movie all around the world even though they don't like it they start appreciating the movie.

Not many in this world speak truth. They want to be with popular feeling....

this is also a marketing technique adopted by movie makers around the world....

My honest opinion is Avatar isn't really a great movie....although it is not bad either...

but it is certainly not as good as people say...its slow screenplay sometimes bores you.

and then came a man who visioned something and made it a reality...called avatar...the story was nothing..just something very similar to our late 70s early 80s bollywood movie where a city guy goes to village falls in love with a native girl and save the village frm robbers...but the imagination, conceptualization, designing, and bringing it to reality steals the show...good luck cameron..we are with u...

I dont know what's wrong with Rediff reviewers these days. Always in a negative mood? As if they are fully drenched with watching movies. You don't know the real PUBLIC dude. The main motive behind re-releasing is to make it available to people who are FANS and want to go and see again. Just like DDLJ which ran for over 10 years.. Would you call the guy as in to rake more money.. Its a fan club dude ,which you wont understand. I hope rediff can come up with better reviewers in future who speak for the PUBLIC and not themselves...
