Noting of surprise,It is the same story world over in Indian cinema. It is not fault of the public at all. Yes piracy has its fair share but the biggest culprits are the film producers them self. modern films are only for couples or single person. family value of the ciena is long gone. No one wishes to take the family out to a cinema night any more. Film have become a dirty word in families no one even at home in their own privicy watches a movie as acollected family every one watches on his/her own away from each other. modern films have become vulgar and explicit nothing is left to imagination Decline of the Indian cinema started in the production houses. Blight has set in and will keep on spreading there is no way to stop it. End of the Indian cinema halls is well in sight and fast becoming reality. One thing for sure that is the Pleasure of watching a movie in a big cinema hall is differnt experiance which can not be had on A TV with DVDs. Nothing matches big screen and its sound system.

The incomes have also been rising. 2 movies per month sounds affordable for a middle class family in India.
What was common & affordable by every common soul struck some business-mind as unholy. From the greed to earn more n more was born the idea of Multiplex. This business-mind then "Managed" authorities & made this greed come true. What was affordable to all now became the property of a moneyed few who started boasting of the privilege of visiting these places. To add to the "Volume" that would be cut from these visitor's pockets, the business mind added glamour - parlours, shops, massage bins, karaoke shants, money changers etc etc who offered their (crass) service n wares at ten times higher rates than such normal services (good quality) outside, just because they have to pay the tenfold rents of these malls.
This has become a vicious circle & a symbiotic venture for all from the shopkeepers, their suppliers, employees right to the builders, corrupt authorities etc etc.
competition drives business. if we were left with a single business model we'd end up with monopolies. I remember the arrogant times of the black tickets issued by the theatre chaps themselves in bangalore. serves them right now. no one cares for those hags.
bangalore however is not a good place to watch movies, tickets are expensive, thanks to idiots - mnc/it/bpo professionals throwing money for ordinary experience. chennai is cheaper and better.
delhi and mumbai still have to experiment with a range of experiences. i wish to see a nano model for multiplex. afterall, we cannot shut out the people who cannot afford a 100 ruppee ticket.
