Lataji - A Tribute
by Catalyst on Feb 02, 2010 01:56 PM

There will never be another Lata, however one may wish.
People may accuse her of monopolising but can they explain why a producer / director / music director or actor should chose someone else, if they have the option of letting Lataji Sing.
In a way, my sincere appreciation to all the filmwallas for letting her sing the maximum number of songs. At least we can choose from amongst so many songs and enjoy what I feel is divine.
Has there been any other personality, who remained the undisputed prima donna for 5-6 decades, and who never had a lean phase ?
She is truly the greatest, we will ever see or know. Her voice and her rendition is the benchmark, which people may strive to follow but can never dream to equal.
But then , can God be equalled.?

No grammy for Lata coz the westeners do not understand our music. Indian classical music has great depth which cannot be imitated by the Westerners whose music is very shallow. A person who has learnt Indian classical can easily imitate western music but not vice-versa just like Indian classical dancing. Assuming that you have watched our actresses who do a pretty gud job at western dancing in films bcoz they have a solid base in Indian classical dancing. Sheryl you are a frog in the well who thinks that the well is the whole universe.

I am from Trinidad married to an Indian for many years and although I do not understand any Hindi my passion has been to learn to play Indian film songs on a Casio keyboard through my Indian music teacher and I have learnt to play more than 150 songs already. Most are lataji's songs.
