Rehman's Music
by Guest on Oct 15, 2009 07:51 PM

Unlike other musicians of these dayz is not aimed at churning senseless chartbusters. When I first heard the music of Lagaan it felt quiet ordinary, but when I saw the movie the same music blew my mind. Rehman composes for the movie and not for the album.

Come on, the songs are noteworthy.

The reviewer has been spot on. AR Rahman rarely does your run of the mill folksy and ballad songs these days. He's one of the few music directors who experiment, and he stands out in that. You can't talk about his music in your normal musical wisdom. You have to go in the unorthodox way. Think out of the box, and you'll see that Rahman's songs are really cool and good to listen to!

Finally Rahman sees GHosal
by BR on Sep 19, 2009 06:13 AM  | Hide replies

I kept wondering what does he hera in Alka Yagnik's voice. Almost every Rehman movie has her screeching in one song. Beautiful compositions lost with her high-pitchy ability. If only high-ability delivery was everything to singing.

Thank you for getting in Ghoshal !

ARR had Ghoshal sing many songs in Tamil & Telugu but not in Hindi. Maybe its because hindi audience likes to hear either sunidhi or alka but now he has realized shreya is good enough to sing all the songs in a bollywood film.

Agree with Ajith Kumar
by Guest on Sep 17, 2009 12:45 PM  | Hide replies

It takes guts to call a spade a spade - Ajith has done just that. Blue is just average considering AR Rahman's potential. It has been some time since AR Rahman has given us some really great music

Wow! I'm, pleased that there are people who don't just hype up things because it is done by a particular person. Wonder if the same reviewer would give the same rating if he had to do a blind review (without being told about the movie & it's music director). I'm sure they would've been far less generous than this.

In my opinion, every single song in blue are world class, and has the mark of the genius that a r rahman is. and i agree with the reviewer here, "The music is as global in its influences and execution as can be expected from Rahman and the scale of the film. You cannot use conventional wisdom to analyse it."

Its funny that after every single album from rahman gets released, some people criticise it as the worst album from rahman ever. the same people say the same thing about the next album too. funny. guess they like the previous album now, but feels the latest one is "below ordinary".

anyways ajith kumar, my pity shall always be with you and for people like you.

Deserves 1.5 star!
by Ajith Kumar on Sep 17, 2009 07:23 AM  | Hide replies

Why is it that whenever Rahman is the music director, the tendency is to give 5 stars or closer to that. Mediocrity is the norm these days & this one is way below mediocre! I don't understand why this bias??

Review and music quite boring
by YouCanDoIt on Sep 16, 2009 04:08 PM  | Hide replies

I have only seen promos on TV. The songs are quite ordinary. Rahman is quite ordinary most of the times. I guess he subcontracts music perhaps. After Swades, Sathiya, RDB and Lagaan, there is nothing to take note for Rahman.
Every music director had great run, I think he is done with his turn.
