Not only are these great artists, tehy are jewels as they bring to the audience other great works of art of India like literature of various periods. We should have more forums for these rare films, with subtitles or other language dubbing.

Why so much bragging? Are you some brand ambassador for these? Why do you have to talk loose about something that you don't feel you are a part of? Is it so because your emotions have developed seeing these films and not believing in constructive education that you may have recieved since your childhood?
It is great that Adoor has been given this award............he is the best.......I remember Saif ALi khan being given national award for HUMTUM...............This is such a shame....compare Mohanlal in Vanaprastham and Saif......I hope they don't do bollywoodisation of the National awards atleast

Dude, have you ever stopped to wonder that Saif may indeed have acted well? No doubt Mohanlal is a good artist, but open up your mind to accept other good actors around the world as well.

Intrepid has a very valid point. How can anyone give Saif a national award for Humtum over Mohanlal...
Well the answer is - Sharmila Tagore, his mom, who was in the jury!
(Intrepid was not talking about other actors around the world. Just Saif and Mohanlal, and Saif being given the award over Mohanlal.)

Yes he knows only abcd of acting. Some anil kapoor's crap can also be remebere here. Thereafter i presume no such incidents happened.
The awards are given based on how the movie has fared in its sensibilities and most importantly, its affect on the mind of viewer. Not the titillating aspect of mind, but the sensitive aspect. In other words whether the movie has made u think deeply weeks after watching it or not is the criteria.

good observation. but if it touches ur sensibility then u r surely going to think deep about it
His films are made just for the awards. What is the use of films, if the same is not watched by masses. Anyway, it is not an easy task to watch his moveis. It is difficult to understand what is the criteria for giving awards.

The criteria is to judge which film helps is society development towards right by understanding the same like these film do, and not to the films which exploits the weakness of the society by showcasing vulgarity and violence.

I can't agree with you. We cannot just compare works of art based on mass viewership. I recall a anecdote somebody told- when a cabaret dance and kathakali is performed simultaneously, the viwership of the kathakali is nothing compared to the other. Will you pass remark that cabaret is better artform than kathakali?

Its upto to you to watch the movie, why so concerned about the "masses". Movie based on masses reaction doesn't mean the movie is good, eg. bollywood movies. Its the most popular movie industry and its get a profit way more higher thn adoor's films. Comparing adoor's films to bollywood blockbuster thts already out nd verdict hs been given, is like an ant to an elephant.
Anyday, adoor's films are the best thn those movies.
Malayalam film industry: most mature Tamil F.I : depend on selective people like Maniratnam,Shankar,Gautam Menon,Rajnikant and Kamal hassan Marathi F.I: glorious past..went to slack in 80s -90s..revived and became mature with films like 'shwaas''walu''tingya''shivajiraje bhosale boltoy' 'devrai''sarivar sarii etc. Bengali F.I: still searching for succesors of Satyajit ray, mrunal sen, ritwik ghatak, rituparno ghosh Telugu F.I: total masaala films Kannada F.I : no one after Raj kumar Hindi F.I: eighty percent trash..no more gurudutt, bimal roy,b r chopra, hrishikesh mukerjee can be found now

I disagree...If you look at the total of malayalam movies made every year, 90% are trash, with crass humour, terrible stories and age-old stars acting as teenagers. You can count the number of good directors on the fingers of one hand. Even if good movies are made, they are watched mostly by juries of awards and film festivals
Re: Re: cinema
by Intrepid cool on Sep 08, 2009 03:48 PM
that may be true............but then out of the whole lot......malayalam is still the best....forget the entertainment flicks.......look at Thanmatra etc.
Re: Re: cinema

Almost 80% of the malayalam movies are made for people like you who cannot understand creative movies made by the likes of adoor. But still compared to other languages malayalam still has got good movies though the movie standard is declined from the golden era of 1980 - 1990
