by sam puzhakkal on Sep 08, 2009 06:36 AM  | Hide replies

Guys, what happened? Bollywood was supposed to be 'Global icons' stars and item girls! how come it is raining flops in Bolly and raining national awards for South cinema.

South Indian cinema swept the national awards top honors - Best Film, Best Director, Best actor, Best Actress!!!!

If bollywood icons are not getting National Awards in India, what will happen to our dreams of Bollywood getting Oscars!!!

Should I keep dreaming for ever!! SRK!! Govinda!! Item Girls - Rakhi Sawantji, Mallika Sherawatji, please help!!!

Yes bollywood won national awards this year for 'best kabadiwalla', 'best tea boy', 'best darban'.

Did they win 'best film', 'best director', 'best actress', 'best actor'?

You mentioned in your first line " 'Global icons' stars"...

See in none of these flops, any global icon like Amitabh, SRK or Aamir worked. All these are cheap movies having B grade star casts.

As far as Oscar is concerned, there have been several South Indian films like Nayagan, Indian who were sent for Oscar and none of them succeeded in getting nomination. On the other hand in the history of Indian cinema the 3 movies which have been nominated in Oscar are Bollywood films. Also not to forget Water and Slum Dog Millionaire which had Bollywood artists.
So South Indian films are good for only national level but in Oscar level Bollywood is ahead.

Also if National award is the criterion to judge actors, then Mithun Chakraborty should be India's no.1 actor since he won maximum num of National awards.

Go back and check you statistics one more! South Indian movies keep winning national awards, but I&B ministry keeps sending Hindi movies (very rare exceptions being a few Tamil films that were sent) for oscars - not the south Indian movie that won the National award!

If you keep sending Hindiwallah movie year after year, which do you think would get shortlisted on the rare ocassion that the Indian entry gets shortlisted? The Hindiwallah movie that was sent, or the National award winning movie that was not sent by I&B ministry?

So when u say that in the History of Indian cinema Bolly movies were shorlisted, u need to look at the history once again to realize that if HIndi phillums are sent, they would only get shortlisted.

LOL! So 'Slum Dog Millionaire' had Bollywood artistes and that is your basis to declare that Bollywood is Oscar level! AR Rahman is Tamil, and Resul Pookutty is Keralite...these guys won the oscar for a movie which is NOT Indian but BRITISH movie!!

'Water' is a Canadian movie!!

And you want to use them as proof for Bollywood's film making ability.

No close your eyes and imagine Bolly director making Slumdog Millionaire. Your head will spin with the amount of item girls/ item songs/ bolly phormula and tacky dialogues. The story is about slums, but Bolly director would shoot most of it in US, Europe, Australia...NOt one bolly director has teh guts to shoot scenes like Danny Boyle's slum scenes and slum lat_rine as shown in SDM.

LOL..u still take the 'Global icon' title for SRK seriously? Even after he was mistaken for an illegal immigrant in New jersey airport! and detained and frisked for 2 hours!!!

So your contention is that bolly global icon Big B is not in this list of flops, becoz he is giving hits? He has given 2 hits in the last 21 years!! And to be honest, he is an extremely talented actor - I will admit that...but how can he help if all bolly directors make him to 'shawa shawa' and 'dil tera sona...' at this age. No Bolly director has the imagination to make him do roles like Marlon Brando, that would do justice to Big B's caliber!!! NO they will still make him dance with item girls!!!

Bollywood is all hype, not quality, no professionalism!
by exoticbronze on Sep 07, 2009 11:30 PM  | Hide replies

You guys need to learn professionalism from South Indian cinema. In bollywood your actors want to come late to the sets, want to be treated as kings and forget that the script and movie is more important than you.

In south Indian cineman, Actors turn up on time, no nakhra natak, and take their roles seriously...whether it is kamal Hassan, Nagarjuna, Mammootty, Mohanlal, RajniKant, Chiranjeevi...none of them keep the sets waiting, none of them try to dictate terms to the director, and every one works as a team...no wonder year after year the substandard bollywood keeps getting kickedout of national awards.

Bollywood films are all masala flicks - one item girl, 2 item songs, same old story - boy meets girl, beat the villain, tension with girl's parents, song sequences which have increasingly become tedious with predictable masala music video choreography (pumping hands and fist frantically as if a 440 volt current is passing through you), same old foreign locations - (lets face facts there is no clean part available in North India that you can shoot a movie).

Bollywood is only headed downhill.

But see Big B and Rishi Kapoor are playing Old men's character while Rajnikanth is still playing same role which he did 20 years back.

Yes Big B plays old man's character who keeps doing 'dil churake le gayee' dances with item girls and 'shawa shawa' item number moves...Same beard in every movie. Why? Because in Bolly the role is not supreme, the actor/star is supreme! So how dare anyone suggest that the beard would have to go for the role...no the role would have to adapt to the eccentricity of BigB to keep a beard..because he hates showing his wrinkles!!!

In HOllywood or South, Kamal Hassan, Mammootty, Mohanlal will shave their heads if the role demands it!! Tom Hanks looked like lost immigrant who survived on leftovers in the New York Aiport in a movie, and as a castaway when the role demanded in another movie!

Any bolly actor has the guts to look 'unromantic' and like a 'beggar'. IMPOSSIBLE! They want to show their 6 packs, and item number moves in every movie!!!

Ratnadeep babu,

Please check up how many National awards Mohanlal, Mammootty and Kamal Hassan have won?

when you display Saif Ali Khan and Ajay Devgan as the shining stars of Bollywoods acting talent, that alone should tell you how bankrupt Bollywood talent pool is.

And in case you forgot, Saif Ali Khan's mother was the juror that selected her son for the award! He did NOT deserve it..AND YOU KNOW THAT.

Nana Patekar is talented. No question about it. But such is the bolly culture that no director's r busy doing item girl movies with funny choreography (hands and legs jolting like a 440 volt current is passing through the rear end of the hero and heroine!). How many directors in Bolly have the courage to use Nana Patekar's talent...its sad to see him do Bolly nakhras in most of his movies...I am sure he hates doing most of his scenes, but the tase of bolly fans and scripts are such!

Answer: Your ilk.

Point: "If you have issue then please stick to south india and don't come here."

Counter point: Rediff is owned by a South Indian!

Mates,

Let us stick to bombarding poor actors, scriptwriters and unimaginative directors. India is one south to north and east to west. we give biggest pleasure t our nosey neighbpours when we indulge in such illogical acts.

For the same reason that Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi actors try and act in bollywood movies instead of their regional movies - get additional paycheck to add to your income. is that a bad thing?

You mean to say SRK and Big B are acting for free, and they dont want money! LOLs!!

Remember SRK's famous words, to reporters, a few years ago "I will dance at private parties for money, what is your problem. A man can do what he wants do earn money".

So for you it is okay if Big B at this age goes from city to city in the US like a circus and dances for dollars!

'Global icon' SRK got humiliated by the US immigration who mistook him for an illegal immigrant sneaking in...Yet when asked in Mumbai if he would go back to US, SRK told reporters, "If I have opporuntity for earning money, I will visit the US... yes I will".

Your Bollywood stars and starlets have gone and danced for Dawood and party, some of them even beame live in girfriend/wife to the underworld ... all for money, and you want to lecture us!!!

For money your actors have been convicted hoarding fire arms for the underworld...lols

Dont worry about Flintoff's wealth. He has enough money to buy you and your ilk on cash payment! :)
