I am not from South India so dont know much about actors there. But as far as I know, amongst all the other male actors in South India Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu looks quite good. I have even watched Nag's movie I liked them alot.

May god have mercy on tollywood
by Dona Paula on Sep 02, 2009 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

Telugu films started going downhill in the late 80s and have never recovered. It is still to bottom out. We have guys like him to thank for it.

Just a bit of trivia: Did you know that telugu films have never won "BEST FILM" award at National film awards. All other major regional language films have won (bengali, hindi, kannada, marathi, malayalam). Don't believe me ? check out wikipedia or other sites.

Only one excuse always. We like our food salty and spicy. Just good for the mouth not for the body.

Hope yound directors like Chandra eleti, Mohan krishna indraganti, Chandra sidhartha will make a difference in the coming years.

May god have mercy on tollywood.

Perhaps you should try to see some of the films that won. Lobbying does not work always. Then again Andhra filmfolk have a lot more pull at the center compared to say an assamese or oriya or kannada filmmakers. Dasari narayana rao was union minister and a filmmaker. He could have done something about it.

Let's not kid ourselves. 99.99% of what comes from tollywood is a sad excuse for a motion picture and a utter waste of celluloid.

munna bhai MBBS has won National Film Award for Best Popular Film not best film...

there are lot of telugu movies which got national awards and big commercial hits. I recommend you to watch shankarabaranam movie with sub titles if you dont understand telugu you differently come to know what bollywood movies lack.

Bollywood in great only because of number people who watch the movies are more.

tammudu,

why u've chosen national web forum to curse telugu movies.

btw telugu industry is entertaiment oriented than any other film industry. thats the reason more and more number of telugu movies are remade these days.be proud of that rather than cursing ur own mother tounge/film industry.

I am not cursing all telugu movies. There were excellent films made earlier that will last forever. But these are far and few in between

Ok suman. You are taking about entertainment. There is also a award for "best popular film providing wholesome entertainment". Guess what ? Telugu film has never won this also.

Dona, you are WRONG about that one!

'Shankarabaranam' won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment in 1980!!!

Maybe you would like to retract your statement.

Thank you.

that is because of people like you. what are these so called national award movies? it is always about sexual exploitation, marital affairs, sex, violence you name it. you end up getting a headache watching them. agreed that commercial movies also have the same, but atleast they provide entertainment. people are not idiots to go spend money and watch it for nothing. moreover some of the recent movies are socially relevant and provide message in a humorous way esp in telugu.

I get it now. If The tools to measure entertainment are body count, item numbers, stale jokes, looking at women as objects, etc. Then I agree. Telugu movies are extremely entertaining
