Akshay is the best

Most of the junta out here will rate him as an over the top buffoon/clown etc etc.. But just look at his roots man. This man came to industry with zero recommendation, no godfather,no rich family back-ground,no Stage/Drama experience... just fire in his belly to become a star..And look what he has achieved..Easily he s among the top-three stars right now, charges the biggest mullah as fee consistently, has arguably the most-powerful screen presence, almost magical (even better than a certain king khan), has awesome comic timing, one of the best know action stars out here in bollywood, and a sheepish, earthly grin that has become almost his trademark..I am not sure about the authenticity of the article which rated him as the worst dressed actor, but it is without doubt that he is the best in shape natural good looking body in town..Anything that he tries and wears, be it the much dreaded shiny jackets or a good old plain blue denim, he carries it all with style...I think he can pull off in style any damn piece of dress...People in this forum and beyond have continuously penned about his bad choice of movies and non-experimental roles.. But just tell me who could ve pulled off roles a.l.a. Namaste London or Khaki or Hera-Pheri better than him.. He has been experimental, but kuck has not favoured him..Sangharsh, Aitraaz were movies different than his usual Singhh is Kingg like stuff, but people didnt watch them in theatres..only later on cds and tv did they realize they were gud.

Indian showmen are too inconspicuous in the west !!

India and Indians hardly ever surface as serious news in the west. This is almost as true today as it definitely was a decade ago. The Himalayan hype that keeps getting generated by the Indian media about ‘emerging India’, ‘superpower India’, ‘IT behemoth India (???)’, ‘fast growing or fast developing (Vow!) India’ notwithstanding, any reference about Asia in the west still is almost all about China, making one wonder whether the west in general has anything more than a faint and distant awareness about the equally populous India !!!

This truism extends as much to awareness in the west about Indian culture, music, sports, show business, etc. as it does to the bogey about ‘economically emergent India’.

Considering that matters are so, the primary question that this rediff movie headline news solemnly proclaiming that a British magazine has labelled this hindi actor as the ‘worst dressed man on earth’ brought to mind was ‘since when have western magazines (even small and all but irrelevant publications such as ‘Esquire’) started considering Indian ‘stars’ as newsworthy and reportable ? Intrigued by this, I did a search on the net for ‘Esquire’ magazine and for the names of the other badly dressed ‘noteworthies’ it has thus branded.

What I found was certainly interesting. The name ‘Akshay Kumar’ did not appear on any of the links that a search for ‘Esquire worst dressed’ led me to. What I found on the many links was the usual stuff about Hollywood artistes (and only about them). When I typed ‘Esquire worst dressed Akshay Kumar’ and searched however, his name promptly popped up on a few links, each one as Indian in ownership and content as any other !! It appears that ‘Esquire’ magazine has indeed named the hindi actor the worst dressed in one of it’s niche categories and not after taking into account the entire world of showbusiness !!!

By gingerly avoiding anything that will give a realistic perspective about western ‘acknowledgements’ and ‘recognition’ for matters Indian, the Indian media repeatedly shows how desperately yearning they (and Indian showbusiness) really are for ‘tidbits of western recognition’ !!!
