People have short memories. But since we have an opporunity, I salute you for your supremem gift of voice and singing and ability. For bringing classical singing to playback genre is nothing but ingenious. No other classical singer has been able to achieve it.
Further....this song was picturised on Uttam Kumar I believe, intensely haunting scene done for the song. Gives the chills.
The Fact that Manna Dey could even do comedy in his songs like Bhoot Bangla is memorable, he was at least 40% in part reason for Mahmood's numero uno status in the 60s.
All the songs are wonderful, not a single mistake. My favourite songs are from Padosan. But super-favourite of his is 'Jalsaghar', a benagli song, which was resung by few singers like Asha Bhosle, but no one beat his version. Recently this song was redone in the remake movie Bhool Bhulaiya, song is 'Mere DOlna'
Manna Da had unknowingly set the bar of perfectness so high for the bangla semi-classical songs that the next gen did not even attempt to reach it and so wandered off to other styles of music incl. western and rock and jaz like Indian songs.

pl remember that manna dey is not a bengali singer only. he has sung much more hindi songs than bengali songs. and he is famous all over india for his hindi songs, he is an international figure
