What a pity the way you think even in the 21st century. I think you failed to evolve and are still living in caves just like the chaddiewallas.

My Friend, 150 years old Calicut Corporation got tradition of welcoming people from Vasco da Gama.In the field of Malayalam language and literature, Kozhikode has made many significant contributions. The district is famous for folk songs or ballads known as Vadakkan Pattukal. The most popular songs among them are those which celebrate the exploits of Thacholi Othenan and Unniyarcha. One of the favourite past times of the Muslims of the district is singing Mappila pattu and Oppana. The songs are composed in a composite language of Arabic and Malayalam. The famous intellectual debate for Vedic scholars to win the coveted position of Pattathanam takes place at Thali temple during the month of Thulam. Kozhikode also has strong associations with ghazals and football.

Calicut always had a tradition of hosting good music.Well known hindi play back singers viz. Talat Mahmood, Mukesh, Rafi, Kishore Kumar etc used to perform in Calicut much before other centres woke up!Cochin never had performing arts culture, though they have a music college in tripunithura. For that matter Trivandrum could boast of Swathi Thirunal music festival.

Hey Senso, I will tell the organisers to take your consent before organising any big event. I think you are too offended.

Dude please visit Rehman's site for details. The anticipated crowd could not be accommodated in Cochin's stadium. Hence Kozhikode was chosen.....

Simple 1)Kozhikode had 70000 seater stadium while Kochi had lesser 2)Kozhikode is strategicallyclose to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka that has the maximum number of fans and is easier for them to come 3)Traffic is bearable

Mr. Trivandrum Padmanabhan, Cochin never had Performing arts culture? What do you know? Please brush yourselves with details before you say something. Kathakali, Koodiyaattam (International Center for Koodiyyaattam HQ), Koothu, etc.. wereare performed almost everyday in different venues. Can you specify a placetemple where there are 24 hours performing arts being hosted for 8 days during temple festival? Yes, Cochin always lags behind in reality shows, the other forms of Music shows (hip-swinging dances), but we surely have great carnatic concerts almost every week, like the TN Krishnan and Umayalpuram concert in Tripunithura.

This is because there is a good Muslim population who know how to give respect for 'their' artistes. Did you know that Calicut has also hosted many great people over the past few decades such as the boxer Mohammed Ali ?
