This film is indeed an awesome film. Apart from being a period film it deals with how a man is driven to fulfill his dreams and becomes a victim on his own device and ideologies. The film is superb in the way it goes back and forth from past to present seamlessly. The movie is simly awesome
It requires infinite patience to watch this movie. Don't know what the director was thinking of when he made it. I agree with pavithra. The second half is kind of tolerable.
Booooringgg! I saw this movie for an hour and my God, this movie just plainly sucks! The movie is good in patches but never lives up to the expectations of an outstanding movie. Just because a movie has Prakashraj and is directed by Priyadharshan, doesn't mean that the movie is great by default! Correct me if I am wrong.

ya but the difference is that tamil crap is way better than golti or hindi crap. If u feel stmoach burns with regard to the fact that these type of crap movies dont come out in golti/hindi take ENO - it shud be quite beneficial to you
Forget the review written here. This is a critically acclaimed movie. So for people who like movies with a simple story and narration, definitely worth a watch.
Rediff, please do us a favor and get rid of talentless reviewers like Pavithra. Apart from movie reviews, she also reviews music, with absolutely no basic knowledge of the medium.
In this movie review, firstly, she does not mention a basic fact... the time period that this movie is set in. Or, she has not realised that it's a period film.. It's probably because of such people that directors in India make it very obvious and add subtitles at the beginning of the film showing the year...
Back to the review... She laments that the strains of Veena used in the Background Score reminds her of the "art films of yore" and immediately scoffs at the veena played by the family at a function, citing is as a "commercial element"!!! Please, can someone translate what the reviewer has to say?

I think the tamil movie reviewers have not grown enough to enjoy the beauty of silence. These people always want the camera to run around with shaky movements and fast cuts. Rediff should educate the reviewers about serious cinema.
