India and Poverty..
by shekhar deshpande on Sep 02, 2009 03:23 PM

Agree with Pavan Kumar's post below. The western media wants to see what they WANT to see in India. Without turning a blind eye towards those problems, it is very important, very very important to understand that the poverty is "notional" to a large extent... at least the type of poverty illustrated in the western media. Slums DO NOT INDICATE POVERTY. Slums are just a reflection of the lack of SPACE but the abundance of opportunities in cities.
INDIA'S POPULATION IS NOT A PROBLEM.
WITH EVERY MOUTH THAT IS BORN TO EAT, GOD HAS SENT TWO HANDS THAT CAN WORK.

India Poverty

I am vexed with people like patriot. He is a Srilanakan who posted same message (one more additional sentence claiming Srilanka is better than India in poverty) yesterday. Due heat of comments he got back for his post yesterday today he came back as a Indian patriot. These doggy second rated citizens in other countries who are modern version of western slavery just speak their master’s voice. The 18th century slaves are many times better these modern slaves, as they always tried and fought to get out of it. These modern slaves just rest in there slave peace commenting on poverty and showing unwanted patriotism to home countries. And now to 80% of poverty, who gave you this number, what is the base of it? The western economist researchers and missionary dominated English media? How do you judge this, because average lower level income is 2 dollars per day? The real value of these 2 dollars in India on an average day is 90 rupees, a person who earns this per day can easily met this ends. The question of slums, do you think all who live in slums are poor. In most of the slum families the whole family will work. The helper who work in my home have all her 6 family members working each earning an average of 250 rupees per day, by all means this more than my family income. What Danny showed is only a half-truth and other half is classic western myth. The problem is with our own people, they project themselves as poor to attract the media and help. I don’t say there is no

. I don’t say there is no poverty in India but it is not definitely at the bust rate westerns show it. Out of 26 Indian states only 4 states have poverty above national average (UP, Bihar, Orissa and Rajasthan), 9 states are far below national average (all southern states, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and HP) all other states are less than average or on border of average. One exception of this is mal-nutrition, child mal-nutrition is high (41%) in India. Surprising is every richest states in the country have child mal-nutrition issues, only states which have better averages are AP, Kerala and Punjab, with Punjab ranking better than few developed countries.

"Article: Air India may vacate Nariman Point HQ
Suggestion
on Aug 20, 2009 10:21 AM

They are going to do a global search for a CEO.
why dont you indians hire someone from italy? "

The above are the comments by "Patriot" in an older post...

Now, knowing that this "Patriot" is not an indian but yet tries to unsuccessfully post such wonky ideas, the level of frustration of others at India's progress is so very evident!

What a fool is he to think that by writing demeaning articles like the one written below, he can really put down our country...!

Indians are one of the smartest races in the world...
get out of your inferiority complex, Patriot and rather being jealous of a prospering country like India, try to do something to contribute to the betterment of your own country...

10 movies
by patriot on Jun 25, 2009 04:37 PM

Even with 10 movies, slumdog is still the best. No other movies brought to reality the poverty that surrounds every nook and corner of India. For those of us living outside in other countries, it opened our eyes to suffering of our fellow South Asians. It made us realize that our small lives are nothing compared to the suffering of every Indian, most of whom live in slums. These slumdogs of India which make 80% of this poverty stricken country are the real children of God. I hope we all join together to help India come out of being one big slum. Because this movie opened our eyes, this British movie will win award even if there 100s in the final. Thank you Danny Boyle.
