great MM

MM is one of the greatest composers of all time..present composers should listen to him for his intricasies and melodies..apart from
Rahman,no composer seems to be serious about creativity it seems..The gr8 mantle solely lies on ARR's shoulders

A real treat in the offing!!!

Great article!!! Hats off to Rediff folks. BTW, for Madan Mohan and Rafi saab fans, this comes as a double treat as some of these songs are nothing less than gems. I've already a couple of these songs and Kaise Kategi is one of my all time fave songs from the Madan Mohan - Rafi saab combine. This song sees Rafi saab singing in a quivering voice, a la Talat Mehmood. Am clueless about the lyricist though.

Regards,
Tanvir

it is a real pity that present day composers are struggling to compose 1 good song, also even if a song is composed these days we dont have the caliber of a rafi to sing those songs.rafi just took playback singing to an alltogether different level and for someone to reach that level and versatility in playback singing is totally impossible

All because they do not understand music, fail to learn and understand.
Modern musician are only after quick bucks where as the older musician had love fort music, the earned more then the modern ones but a bit slowly.
The so called musician of modern days are just noise makers, a dis grace to music and instruments.

Unparallel Madan Mohan

The compositions done by Madan Mohan are mindblowing. Every tune he made had his own signature in it. I feel he was the best composer as far as melodious songs are concerned. Who can forget lataji's immortal song from the film "Mera Saaya" - Tu jahan jahan chalega, mera saaya saath hoga".

Ravi Iyer

I agree completely. But the irony about Madan Mohan is that he never got recognition when he was alive and became great only after his death (like Guru Dutt's character in Pyaasa). He was mostly relegated to 'B' grade movies with some exceptions. His music was very original and many of his songs were ghazals.
