no dude, this has nothing to do with mani.
the elephant couldn't control his libido on seeing ash.
after discovering that she was married to ab-shake, the elephant went completely nuts and targeted a combination of rage, frustration and regret on the mahout.
Its really sad to see Mani Ratnam always getting obsessed with few actors. Before it was Madhavan and now it seems its Abhishek and Rai. Abhishek and acting or dancing are poles apart. Rai is just too much hype. Looks like Ratnam wants to capitalise on the hype of these two just in case his direction doesnt click.

Not quite true. Mani Ratnam has never been star-obsessed, else he would not have stopped with one movie each with superstars like Kamal Haasan, Rajnikant, Mammooty, Shahrukh Khan and just two with Mohanlal (one each in Malayalam and Tamil). He has in fact worked with relatively unknown actors, who tasted stardom thanks to being part of his films. To name a few: Arvind Swamy, Madhu, Shalini, Girija and Prakash Rai. I would even include Anil Kapoor in this list, as Mani's debut film starred him before he became famous in Hindi and Lakshmi (of Julie fame). To him goes the credit of introducing popular models and starlets to perform 'item numbers' - Sonu Walia to Anu Agarwal to Sonali Bendre to Malaika Arora... In the past, very few actors were repeated in his films, like Revathy, Arvind Swamy and Madhavan.. and now Aishwarya and Abhishek. A director of his stature doesn't have to depend on the 'hype' around this couple to make his movies succeed.
