Why do we try to imitate others? If it's only "bathroom singing" (as in my case) then it's okay, passable. But if someone seriously tries to sing like him, I feel he will be making a mockery of himself.

Fully agree. Rafi saab is INCOMPARABLE. The closest anyone ever got to IMITATING him was the highly accomplished Sonu Nigam
while I love many of his songs I especially like some of the sad songs that he gave us 1. subah na aayi sham na aayi, jis din teri yaad na aayi..... (this begins with - a sher - khushi jisne khoji woh tan leke louta hansi jisne khoji woh man leke louta magar pyar ki khoj me jo chala woh na tan leke louta na man leke louta (touches the depth of your heart as u remember stories of ur past life......... and everyone has one)
2. toote huve khwabon ne humko yeh sikhaya hai 3. hum tumse juda hoke mar jayenge ro ro ke 4. aaj purani rahon se 5. din dhal jaye 6. kya se kya ho gaya 7. yeh mehlon yeh takhton 8. yeh duniya yeh mehphil 9. mai yeh sochkar uske dar se...(with other singers) 10 dekhi zamane ki yari... and would like to mention two more "special" songs here - 1. whenever i listen to ab tumhare hawalen watan sathiyon... it brings tears to my eyes.... made immortal rafi
2. man tadpat hari darshan ko aaj is one of the best bhajans of Indian films - composed by Naushad, lyrics by shakil and sung by rafi (now dont ask a question like how could they create this magic without following hindu religion..... their religion was music..... my salute to all the masters of that era.
