It didnt start with Yash raj movies
by Narakasur on Jul 16, 2009 06:25 PM

The concept of shooting the movies abroad was started by Shakti Samantha in 1960s with "An evening in Paris". We also had movies like "Night in London" and "Sangam" which were shot abroad. But "An Evening in Paris" has to take the cake for the best.
Sad to see how people like Shakti Samantha are ignored by the media now, for his contribution to Hindi movies is greater than people like YC,Johars etc.

Why not in INDIA
by Arun Mishra on Jul 16, 2009 03:00 PM  | Hide replies

My question is why INDIAN movies makers are not making movies in INDIA except movies has some demand of forgein local like new york etc.

I think in INDIA we will all kind of location which is availible in abord. I agree that there will be issue with security and noise of public, but we can encourage tourism by that and in turn it will increase job opportunity for young INDIA.

HOPE THIS WILL MAKE SENSE TO THE CORRECT PEOPLE

Your voice definitely will be heard by the public Arun...but not Karan Johar and SRK. Shout loud and praise New York city and karan will probably cast you in his nect directoral venture ;)

Foreign locale and SRK
by Love India on Jul 16, 2009 02:51 PM

Karan johar is notorius for shooting all his movies in New York city since his blockbuster 'Kal Ho Na Ho'. His passion for NYC isn't complete without Shahrukh Khan in his movies. SRK is a director's actor..agreed! He delivers whenever there is a good director like Mani Ratnam (Dil Se), Ashutosh Gowarikar (Swades), and/or Shimit Amin (Chak De India). However, I do no tunderstand why Karan Johar has this passion of casting SRK in all his movies and shoot them in NYC. There has to be some logic behind it. Now, we hear there is a new movie coming from this team, again set in NYC, called 'My Name is Khan'. Why in the world KJ had to make this one too in NYC at first place? He probably didn't learn his lesson after the debacle of KANK. He is a good director, no doubt and handles love stories well. I think it is time for him to show that he is versatile as well..and can't only bank on just SRK and NYC to make his movie a blockbuster. He can prove that he can make a successful movie set in Hitech City Hyderabad as well. And yes, he can surely cast a newcomer like Neil Nitin Mukesh who we have just seen giving a splendid performance in New York. I guess if Karan Johar reads this, his next venture after 'My Name is Khan' will be set in Los Angeles...but he won't come back to India.

Hats' off
by Love India on Jul 16, 2009 01:54 PM  | Hide replies

Hats' off to films like Viraasat, Bheja Fry, Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan, A life in a Metro. They didn't have to go to a foreign locale to prove their point! Yash Raj Banner and Dharma Productions always have made films for NRIs' and they will continue doing that. They don't care if the film is a hit in India or not. What they care is a mere DOLLAR! Gone are those days when Yash Chopra himself made movies like Kaala Patthar, Trishul and Deewar..more Indian, shot in India, and more down to earth.

I agree. Mani Sir has shot movies like Dil Se, Dalapati, Roja, Agni-Nakshatram, Alaipayuthe and his biggest hit Nayakan..all in India. But look what status these movies enjoy today. They are classics and never needed any foreign locale. I am not counting the latest movie 'New York' as it is about NY and the script needs the movie to be shot there. But tell me one reason why Karan Johar had to shoot 'Kal Ho Na Ho' or 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' in New York..and not our own Mumbai?

The reason why KJ shot it in NYC is that it helped him have big long holiday in the US with his friends and add all that as expenses towards his movie so that he doesnt have to pay tax on it.
