How come no reviewers mention the fact that is a remake of a tamil comedy Pammal K Sammandham. Kamal haasan was amazing in the original and had the audience laughing from scene 1 till the end. Kamal and simran had excellent on-screen chemistry and the movie was a run away hit. Akshay kumar should have remade this movie scene by scene frm the original tamil version, it would have been watchable and enjoyable. What remains is cheap skin show n vulgar comedy.

KAMBAKKHT ISHQ belongs to both, Akshay and Kareena. Akshay is dynamic this time. He received a lot of flak for CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA and there was this nagging feeling that the negativity would spill over to KAMBAKKHT ISHQ. But Akshay is in terrific form here and delivers, without a shred of doubt, a bravura performance. If you loved him in NAMASTEY LONDON and SINGH IS KINNG, you'd fall in love with Akki and his comic timing all over again this time.
The much-awaited biggie KAMBAKKHT ISHQ started with a bang last night. The film grossed 100% collections in paid previews on Thursday night. In Mumbai alone, the paid previews were held at 62 screens and the film garnered 100% collections. On Friday morning, the early morning shows, i.e. 9.30 am / 10 am shows opened to 90% - 95% occupancy. Places like Rohtak [East Punjab circuit] collected Rs. 55,000 nett against Rs. 60,000 house full capacity. Amritsar will be collecting Rs. 1 lac, which is over-capacity by 200/250 audience. Lucknow was 90% - 95% in morning shows. The audience report is very positive.
Kambakkht Ishq has had a great opening across the country this morning on a big release of over 1000 cinemas. The opening was extraordinary in the North with Aanam in Amritsar and Phul in Patiala going over capacity in the first shows. Multiplexes in Delhi/NCR were also super strong. The rest of the country was also excellent though not as strong as North. The weekend looks set to be huge and possibly the second biggest ever.
Kambakkht Ishq has been released on around 110 cinemas in Mumbai/Thane, 38 cinemas in Delhi city with total going to 70 in Delhi/NCR. East Punjab sees a 62 cinemas release and the film is showing on 29 cinemas in Hyderabad.
The paid previews of Kambhakkt Ishq have seen a bumper response. The film has collected 100% collections at the paid previews in the big metroes like Mumbai and Delhi while other centres were slightly lower. The paid previews have seen a much better response than Akshay Kumar's last major release Chandni Chowk To China but not at the level of last year's mega blockbuster Ghajini which was full across the board.
The advance booking for the weekend is good in terms of the number of tickets sold but due to the massive volume of shows (some multiplexes having 20 shows) in terms of percentage of tickets sold so far it is around 25% of the weekend tickets available sold as of Thursday evening at multiplexes of big cities.
Ghajini saw around 50% weekend tickets gone a day before release while Rab Ne Bana di Jodi was around 20%. But as usual it will be the actual turnout as the film releases tomorrow all over which decides its fate. The paid preview are off to a great start and now hopes are for a similar response tomorrow.
Kambakkht Ishq is doing extraordinary business all over. The film started phenomenal in the North and excellent elsewhere but by afternoon and late afternoon shows the film is recording extraordinary collections practically all over the country.
The media reviews are negative on the film but the paying public seems to be giving it the thumbs up though Monday collections will give better idea of public response. The film has been running for a few shows as yet but at looking at the huge release and the collections so far the film looks set to cross the 25 and 26 crore nett weekend collections of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Singh Is Kinng respectively.

On the whole, KAMBAKKHT ISHQ will strike a chord with the youth and those who relish zany and madcap entertainers. The first half is tremendous, while the second half takes a dip, with the film picking up towards the climax. At the box-office, the film will see an earth-shattering opening weekend and a historic Week 1. It remains to be seen how this film fares in its second weekend/week, given the massive number of screens it has opened globally [2,000 ]. However, the timing is most appropriate [the viewer is thirsting for a biggie] and the hype is tremendous, which should prove very advantageous for the film. Three and Half Stars
