First Indian Movie to bag 10 0scar Nominations. Historical
by Swati Desai on Jan 22, 2009 09:49 PM  | Hide replies

ARR truly deserves to win an Oscar . It was long overdue. 2009 is the golden year that made ARR the most famous man of India. All the best to him. Congrats to ARR and the entire team of SM, the new actors as well as the BW Star Anil Kapoor and the crew for making HISTORY once more. Best of Luck to SM.
I am disappointed with the ruling Indian Govt for not recognizing ARR's GG and giving him a hero's welcome. His was a truly deserving win. They are biased towards certain achievers to celebrate Abhinav Bindre's win but not ARR.

Hi Swati, It is really a good achievement, but you cant blame a Govt for not welcoming him. Both GG and Oscar is for the English movies(TV seriel also) which is made by US and UK(they dont allow the movie from Aus.). Remember it is not a Global recognition, it is not the award for the films all over the world in all languages. We, Indians, both film makers and Audiance need not bother about it.

Oscar has one category for foreign language film(Non-English movie). Lagaan entered Oscar on this category.

There are plenty of 'truths' in USA and UK like racial abuse, imperialism, mass murder.
Why doesnt Boyle make story in that and win a Oscar.?

Oh YEAH! That is why there are still innumerable lines outside US and UK consulates all over the world, right? Because there is 'racial abuse, imperialism, mass murder' there? HAHAHAHA. Wake up and smell the coffee. Boyle has ADAPTED a book written by an INDIAN. He did not make the movie to win an Oscar.

Be happy for ARR, He deserves to win. Shekhar Kapur has claimed that SM is an Indian film as any other with Indian cast and based on India. When an internationally recognized Indian Director like Shekhar believes SM is an INDIAN MOVIE, enough said.

yeah! 7 gues wat there is 99% of AR winning an oscar cos in the "Achievement In Music Written For Motion Pictures(Original Song)" category there r only 3 entries outta which 2 belong to A.R.So if he doesnt win in this category its a racist thing!!

ok,i guess my numbering was wrong above.AR has 3 nominations outta 10,so out of the 10 nominations if slumdog wins only 1/2/3, A.R rehman..v should b very proud, but if it wins 7 (minus(3)of A.R.Rehman) there is nothing to b happy or proud of.

Raj thackeray is more broadminded than Amitabh.
by archer michael on Jan 22, 2009 09:45 PM  | Hide replies

Amitabh Bachan showed his true colour with his comments on Slumdog Millionaire. Raj Thackeray saw thru this fraudster like many others. Its time we appreciate the true heroes of India like, V.Anand, A.R. Rahman, Abhinav Bindra,Leander Paes,N.R.Murthy etc., and throw the Sunjay Dutts and other faltu heroes in Jail, where they belong.

Why A film can not be made on Indian Slums, poverity, corruption?

Poverity is there is America also, but we should not forget India ranks ahead then Ethopia in poverity.

What is Am ithab? did he help any slum dog in Mumbai, tht's why Raj Takray is right. when we can make films like "Care of footpath", "Traffic Signal", etc. why does't SLM ?

Let the movie atleast touch the hearts of the people to make birth control, out di rty politicians, Sangh a pari war who sho ut on Hin dusim, and people like Amit hab to join hand in had to avoid SLUM DOGS in the future.

Tommorow Indians will decide, who deserves oscar: TZP or SLUMDOG
by rohit singh on Jan 22, 2009 09:43 PM  | Hide replies

If Slumdog is not hit in India, then it would be said Foreign director's are reaping on Poverty of India!!Then artistically Indian director's are never going to get Oscar and they should drop any idea of making oscar oriented film! Satyajit roy got oscar for portraying poverty in villages and Mr Boyle is going to get for portraying city slums. Whatever happens, cheers and congrats to those who gain from SM! Those who don't should satisfy themselves that atleast India is shown to world!!!!!!!!!!!

How many slumdogs have you helped?
Do you realize that the slumdogs were elsewhere before 3-4 centuries and they hounded India for its riches.. finally turning India into slums? Why take pride in that? How many slumdogs your Raj & Co have helped? Its still the poor people of India that go to vote..

Amitabh and myself at least feel sad to see the plight of our people. Ones like you dont even feel sad.. you enjoy it in a movie only.

Before you get any further on "O ur" or "Am itabh's" nerves, please buy yourself a better keyboard. That'd be the first step in coming out of slums!!

Slumdog shows the neglected part of India and again being a film shows an Cinderella story of poor to rich.

BUt putting "Dog" is offensive, director wants to say of british era of "indians and doga not allowed." same brit stuff.

Award winning movies
by MB Sivaramakrishnan on Jan 22, 2009 09:35 PM  | Hide replies

A director can be confident of winning a movie if it is based on Hunger, Poverty, Pro....ion, and other social evils. And the more the leading character suffers, more the chances of bagging an award

I do not mean that, all award winning movies portray only a dark side. But movies under dark's shadow get some preference

South Africa sent the movie "Jerusalema" for the best foreign movie category.
It wasnt accepted, however the story line was about a gangster , and it portayed a very realistic view of the crime in the country, so you are right, the dark side does somehow seem more intriguing
