Slumgod Millionaire and not Slumdog Millionaire
by Anil Jagtiani on Jan 19, 2009 11:15 AM

The movie is fast paced and engrossing, but the glorification of the Slum was a tad too much, especially the Poo scene, which was stretched too far, I guess. All in all a very good film, only hitch the title could have been 'Slumgod Millionaire' in this way the central charectars of the film, the slumkids would have been glorified, after all every children is another form of God, so what if a slumkid.

It is surprising that everyone is praising slumdog..in reality it push back us all in past and western perception will be again thirld world country for India despite all progress we have made..Satyajit ray has done enough damage to Indian image for one oscar but please do not repeat again...Anil, you should have not done this..I fuly agree with Mr. Amitabh Bachhan on his remaks over this movie..It really put Inida way down which we feel when we work with European (I have 90% EU in my office)..It really shame for us..many countries have problem but they never insult their country and show to others..PLEASE SHOW SOME GOOD SIDE OF INDIA AND SEND THOSE MOVIE TO ALL THESE AWARD FUNCTIONS...PLEASE !!!

You are really correct. Even A.R. Rahman should have think about this before accepting this movie as a music director. Just he wants to get name he should not help the white director to shoot all the dirty parts of India. The director says in every country this dirty is there, if there is then in which 100% they have shown like this about western countries. I strongly object A.R. Rahman composed music for this movie. They have used him, they think if this compose music there will not be any objection about this movie in India. He should reject the award first to show the patriotism towards India.

Hello, forget about Amitabh here... you should have common sense. Assume that somebody calling to compose music for a movie which showing all dirty things happend in your home. Do you still go and compose music though they show all the dirty things about in your family. Every family has dirty history, even in your family in your life some dirty will be there. If some body shows that and u will still compose music for that. U should reject the award first. U go and see the movie and open ur mind and heart and see the movie. Dont be third world guy to clap all nonsense that coming in the movie.

Mira-Nair-esque movie !
by Chris on Jan 18, 2009 07:13 PM

This movie is in the same league as "Salaam Bombay", or any of the other terribly horribly awfully bad movies that Mira Nair habitually makes, in which she treacherously pimps-out the poverty of India, just so as to win acclaim from her Western audiences.

The only thing that Slumdog has going in its favor is that it is not made by Mira Nair, so this movies might be slightly less horrible.

Seriously a B-Grade Bollywood film...
by Gabby on Jan 18, 2009 05:51 PM

Guys.... Madhur Bhandarkar is a better director than what Boyle is. A guy who lives in India doesnt know whose face is shown on a 1000 rupee note??! And the 'bhikari' across the street knows that Benjamin Franklin's face is on a US $100 bill??! And u would expect a tourist from USA to atleast know the time period in which TajMahal was built.... atleast when he/she is here to tour the Taj. There are a plethora of flaws in the script/screenplay i.e. whatever they call it ...
The stand out performer in the film is the kid who played Jamal in his childhood.
The film is fast paced and that is it nothing much to add.... A R Rahman has given better performances than this in the past.... way better.
