Why only Danny for slumdog, one mr adiga , the likes of arundhati roy ,kiran desai ,u & me also can be heaped honours for portraying India distastefully. While there is no denying the poverty & filth that ruins India, these people mock upon them for definite western approval. Vilification not empathy of India's misery is these people's claim to fame! but i congratulate rahman for good music and the resultant award ,congratulation!

I am not too sure about that. It says something for our country's progress that virtually 9 out of 10 people you pick of the streets can have their lives transformed by winning on a gameshow. Shows just how badly we have done on the progress front, and how the daily battle for survival takes over all our time and money. None of these winners can claim to say that they would have used the money for charity or to pursue a hobby. No reflection on them, but such a pity still.
If a film that has the destitute of India's commercial capital and their acute problems as its central focus draws the attention and applause of the men and women in Hollywood it does suggest that human values and human need is still a matter of great concern in the film fraternity of the developed West. It is surely not all glamour and glitterati. Contrast this sentiment that comes from Hollywood with the values of Bollywood. How much do our immensely rich actors and producers invest of their earnings in the desperate people whose stories when depicted on the screen earn them fame and enormous wealth? How much of the earnings of Slumdog Millionnaire will eventually go towards the rehabilitation of those who live in Bombay's slums? If nothing is done for them, is this not another glaring instance of the cruel and selfish exploitation of the utterly poor by the fabulously wealthy?
