Greedy Father ?
by Nazir Patel on Mar 03, 2009 09:20 AM

Nice to see the slum actors at The Filmfare Awards function. But whatever happened to the new flats they were promised ? I think that Danny Boyle has done the right thing by putting the money in a trust. If the family is given money now they will spend it and the boy will be left with nothing. However I feel that the two slum actors- the boy and the girl should be given their new and decorated with comfort flats immediately by the studio and the producers and some arrangement made so that a certain amount of monthly expenses is paid for food and electricity , water , taxes , television etc. However someone responsible should be put in charge to dispense these expenses and these expense monies should not go into the hands directly to the father. It seems he is a irresponsible character who will just squander the money. Now here is the details of the article along with my earlier email to you to look into as to what is being done for these two slum actors to get their flats so that they can move into them with their parents. nazir patel Canada London: The father of 10-year-old Mohammed Azharuddin, who acted in the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, has asked for more money from the makers of the film after it was revealed that the child would get less than £ 20,000 for his work. Azharuddin was paid 700 pounds during filming, while another £ 17,500 has been put into a trust fund which he will get, plus interest, when he is 18. His family will get a new house worth £ 20,000 repor

No Flats ?
by Nazir Patel on Feb 28, 2009 09:42 AM

Just few days back these child actors were in L.A in a posh hotel.
They were garlanded and received at the airport with enthusiasm. I thought that they would be given keys to two newly decorated flats so that they would be taken directly from the airport to their new deserved flats. Instead while T.V channels in North America were talking about these actors receiving flats what we saw was them being taken in cars right back to the slums. What a shame. I read that the chief minister turned down the request to grant them the flats. Another report said that the producers and studio that distributed the movie have bought flats. Does anyone know what the truth is ?
What else is sad is that the little boy actor was beaten by his father because he did not want to meet the reporters according to a U.S TV channel Inside Edition. Just imagine how tired these children were after the long flight. Why didn't the producers of the movie and the studio better coordinate their return ? They should have gone directly to the comfort of their newly decorated flats - bought by the studio and the producers. I hope that the producers and the studio will do something quick for the comfort of these two slum child actors unless something has already been done such as the purchase of two new flats and that these child actors get to the comfort of their new flats quickly.
