Start from India Settle outside India

She says ""Freida says New York reminds her so much of her native Mumbai"". let her get as much as Hollywood movies and succeed.
Question is: Will she contribute to the development of the Slum children in India, or just plan and work to get settled in NY and not "native Mumbai"? (is it an escape route?)

Aishwarya rai told that she will work of under privileged children when she got Miss world title. What did she do to India. Nothing except for marrying Superstar's son and showing off her assets wherever she goes. Dont believe what politicians and actors say. Think for yourself and take care of your family. Dont screw up your peace and everybody else's peace listening to these people.

As an construction engineer in a company,i have completed several SRA projects in Mumbai. But some of them are not able to hand over to the slum dwellers since BMC didnt issued occupation certificate.

Even if it handed over to slum dwellers,Most of them had already sold it my mutual agreement notes, saying that they cant afford Rs 225 per month as maintenance charges.slum dwellers want every thing free except Alcahol.

Dear PAPAPIPI,

If one earns 500 a month, 250 for home maintenance fees will be too much no? You don't need an engineering degree to know that?

agreed u dont need an enginering degree for that. but u dont even need brain to understand that these so called slum dwellers cannot afford to maintain even one child when the reality is that their home is full of children. i dont understand how on earth will they take care of their children when they themselves are not able to have food. above all these they are complaining that the government and other people are not helping them and blah blah blah. if u ask me they deserve only this treatment because they are not ready to understand the problem caused by population and no education. when u are not ready to follow even the basic things then u dont deserve any help from anybody.

When a foreigner can calll Indian slum dwellers as slum dogs, there is no hue and cry over this issue. The barbers got annoyed when priyadarshan named his film "Billu Barber" - and renamed it to Billu.....what a pity ? Indians keep quiet when they are insulted by foreigners !

When Bhutto called us Indian dogs we were offended, when a whiteman called us slum dogs, we aew thrilled, that is the difference between a neighbour and master

What's shameful about it?? It means an underdog from slums and it does not refer to a "dog"..God, why do people make issues of silly things.

Mr Ravi Nair what have we as Citizens of India done for our brethren living in the slums. The Politicians also want the slums as its their vote banks.
When you and I see a child living in a slum area eating rubbish from the dustbin and do nothign about it but look other way we are as much guily of calling him a Slum Dog as perhaps you believe the Slum Dog movie producer is!
It is therefore better if someone shows to the world how we are unconcerned about our own people living in the slums.

Salaam Bombay
by bn yalamalli on Feb 27, 2009 10:50 PM  | Hide replies

Just now (27/2/2009)TV 9 English News channel ran an interview with the hero of Salaam Bombay,Mr.Shafiq Shaikh, who won the National award for that film.He is an Auto driver in Bangalore right now.
Every Indian should listen to him.TV ( should air this programme again.
Notable are his views on Slumdog Millionere, his advice to the NGOs to take care of slum children and his dream to make a Film on his life.
He seems to be a very sensitive and intelligent person. He has thrown away the National Award he had received 20 years back to the winds and embraced to real life.Has never met Mira Nair thereafter and did not find her Salaam Balak trust useful. He has 3 kids.
His urge to make a film seems to be very strong. The concerned persons should help him.
I felt like meeting him and shaking his hands. His address was not shown neither his Auto riksha number.
God bless you Shafiq wherever you are.

The money he received at that time must be spoiled by his father for alcahol.Hoe can a autodriver can foster three kids, then it will perpetual poverty.

In Kerala also a great Mosleim leader has questioned the family planning. He is saying that it is a great crime doing family planning which doesnt allow male spermm from fertilizing with a femalee egg.

Please do not apply one rule to every example. He had received only Rs 15000 for salaam Bombay. He seems to be an orphan. He did not seem to be against family planning.

Hi Everybody,

The above discussion started with Slum Dog and not even ending with salaam Bombay to Family Planning.
One thing everyone needs to understand, we have slums in India, we have made a lot of movies on these slums, everyone like to encash it, and done by a Britisher.
I know Mr. A.R.Rehman has made good songs even before this movie, but got more international recognition due to slum Dog. Its a beggining of New era (Just Like Aishwarya / Sushmita in miss world & Miss Universe).
I request you, dont blame anyone. See if I have done anything for Society or Humanity.

Regards - Pravin nagpal
