After controversy over other civilian awards, this seems to be perfect choice. Those who don't know Bhimsen Joshi should recall "Mile sur mera tumhara" and see its first clip.
I remember him more for his devotional songs in Marathi; especially 7am devotional songs programme on Radio. We were grown up listening these songs from Bhimsen Joshi and Lata Mangeshkar.
If the past recipients indicate those who get awarded Bharat Ratna, then it is for those who are involved in music. Nothing wrong with that, suffice it to say that Ratans are not necessarily musicians and singers.
awards like Padmas are announced big just because sportsmen and fimstars get them. Whereas the biggest civilian honour, to a great son of Indian music goes almost unnoticed.
Even though he had requested a low key affair......surely someone better than the Additional Secretary of the Home Ministry cud have come dwn to Pune to present this award. They cud have taken atleast 1 photographer with them so we cud see the pic....for heavens sake this not some man of the match of some stupid cricket match

Bharat Ratna meaning Jewel of India and the award is presented only to the best of the best. If he was not able to travel to Delhi, I think the President should have gone to award him at home. After all, he is the jewel of India. What more? She was already in Maharashtra till yesterday as we know now.

Pls note that he has been conferred Bharat Ratna and not Karnataka Ratna. So pls stop shouting Karnataka Karnataka. You live in India and if you are educated enough you would prefer to Hail India and not just hail Karnataka. Artha Aayta nimige?

Are Yede Ka Boss, He is from Karnataka ...."Joshi was born in a Kannadiga family in the town of Gadag in northern part of Karnataka state."....
