Directors pls note
by Pradeep Kumar on Jan 06, 2010 09:51 PM  | Hide replies

To make a successful Mohanlal movie he should be cast as a supersmart upper cast Hindu.
Surround him with some token Muslim and low caste black hindus like Mani or Bijukuttan to appease the ezhava/SC/ST audience.
Lals fans are mostly Nairs who hate to see him as a Muslim (Eg: Ali Bhai, Moonam Murra (would have been superhit if he had played a Hindu commando), Kilichundan Mambazham, Parridesi etc) or other caste

It is the came case with mamootty also.. The lead charecter's name in 'oru CBI dairy kurippu' was Imran khan...mammotty wanted it to be changed to sethuramayar.. This shows the mentality of our actors and directors. 99% of lead characters in malayalam movies are played by the so-called upper caste people. Once in a while they do muslim or christian characters...remeber the movie twenty20 and saleem kumar character..the makers should be sued for tarnishing the image of a community by mocking at reservation.. and the recent pridviraj movies like puthiya mukham and robinhood show us that the trend is going to go on and on...:) It's pathetic..

Yes u have got a point there. I myself belong to the so called upper caste, but often I feel bad when I see only charecters with nair surnames in screen played by lal or mammoty. I believe this casteism is well ingrained in the film industry. But as somebody said earlier, I do not think films like Ali Bhai bombed because mohan lal played a muslim charecter, but because the movie was plain bad. I believe viewers are much tolerant, but the film makers are casteist.

Good point but give me your take on this: The movie His Highness Abdullah had Lal playing ostensibly a Muslim who is disguised as a Bhramin for almost the entire movie. Would it have been a hit if he had stuck to the Muslim character and the Songs replaced by Ghazals? Don't think so.:}

If lal played a charecter of a muslim the whole time in Abdullah then the story of the movie could have gone for a tail spin.

Most of the art , culture in Kerala has evolved around Hindu relegion. So influvence of hinduism will be there, it doen't mean that other relegions has no place..i think malayala cinema is fair in giving due represetation to other relegious views

Movie is not good
by Pullikattil Lolan on Jan 06, 2010 05:53 PM  | Hide replies

Those who are writing good things about this moive have not seen it.
Its boring and Lal or as someone here called him Lalappan really looks tired.
All main actors are in their fifties!
Not good. Casanova should be the next good movie of Lalappan.(luv that name). He should do some masala stuff with Shaji Kailas to keep fans happy. Learn from Mamooty: He makes one class movie called Ambedkar which no one has ever seen or has ever been released.
Lalappan chumma releases all crap like Paradesi, Aksaha Gopuram and stuff. Just give publicity and don't release.

Holdover in most stations. Boring movie.
We need Lalappan to do meesha pirikkal and double meaning dialogues (Ippam long alla, venamangill long akkam type), not these boring village stories with ayyo pavam acting

by RANJITH on Jan 01, 2010 10:33 PM

we are talking about the film evidam swargamanu that is directed by probably the director of the best movie of last decade in all sense(UDAYANANU THARAM), this is one step down by roshan..., nothing is there in this movie to remember, only lalu & jagathy in last 20 minutes escapes you from a disaster, after watching this movie, now i realised why lal made a statement infront of the media... yes at the end of the day he only will loose the money.......

40 aged farmer wearing a jet black wig...Pazhiraja also having a ridiculous black wig...and the reality!! as a neutral film viewer why can't these guys always have black hair even if they are potraying a middle aged character!! that's itself shows the kind of pathetic state of oldiewood!!

Viewing a Mega Serial better
by Abhijit on Dec 31, 2009 11:18 AM  | Hide replies

A poorly directed movie by Roshan Andrews.

All the Actors seems to be over acting. Lalu Alex's mannerism and comedy itched villainism not suited to this movie. Scenes of Kodanad village residents anxiety over the Township projects were so bad. There are so many scenes where a Serial Director would have done better with the available actors.

Talented actors skills simply wasted.

The last scenes were logic less. That Registration Scenes in a hotel so badly directed without logic.

Either you should have to give a film seriously by carefully directing to show it as a Real scene or should go to other way like Udayananu Tharam, where a serious subject handled fully with Comedy.

Poor selection of films from Great Actor Mohanlal - Angel John & now this film.

Bad movie
