JAB WE MET
by Deepak Bhavnani on Sep 01, 2009 03:30 PM  | Hide replies

Movie 'Jab we met' was recently aired on an English Channel in UK. Having watched the movie, it may be said that the basic premise of the movie has been lifted from a Hollywood movie 'Forces of Nature'.

In Forces of Nature, Ben affleck is about to get married to Bridget and going from New York to Savannah where his bride is waiting for him. While on plane he meets Sandra Bullock. The plane skids on runway so Ben who has a fear of flying decides to take a car instead to Savannah and Sandra joins him in a car.

Because of series of mishaps, it takes Ben 2-3 days to reach Savannah and on the way through series of events gets drawn to Sandra so much so that he starts having doubts whether he wants to get married to Bridget at all.

In Jab we met, instead of male, it is the female (Kareena) who finds herself in the same predicament.

I do hope Bollywood start thinking of some original ideas instead of simply stealing basic plots from Hollywood.

Forces of nature was quite different as compared to JWM. There are a number of movies with basic premise with guy/girl going to get married, meet someone else in between and love happens. Here She is going get married, but the movie is equally about scenario about what happens after she runs away as it is about meeting guy in between. The second part of JWM was not even there for Forces of Nature. In that ways all of the romantic comedies can be called to be some other movie's copy. Like the Wedding planner, wedding Singer aren't they too about falling in love with somone else while going to get married.

I differ on your views that it is based on Forces of Nature. I have seen both the movies and they have their own story lines, moments and excellent characterisation.

Though a lot of Bollywood stuff is COPIED from Hollywood or down south for that matter. But do not agree so much about JWM. And this article has nothing to do with it any which ways.

You are rite that many hindi movies are exact copies....

But cud not agree with u on ur views regarding JWM... More than the story, I like the movie bcoz whenever I see it a kind of inspiration and enthusiasm runs in the blood.... Its a movie that talks about life, hope....

Deepak Grow up. People are so predictable in bollywood these days, so much to an extent that great directors are failing. Forces of Nature had been in almost all kinds of movies, languages around the world. So which one did hollywood steal it from? Which one;s the first? No one knows. Do not compare Hollywood with Bolly. Its a different ball game.

Your conclusion is right. Bollywood does need to think original ideas.

But I do not agree in blaming 'Jab we met' as a copy. There is nothing wrong in being inspired from a movie. But there is a very thick line between inspiration and copying. And Jab we met is certainly not a copy.

Interesting !!!
by Jayaprakash Balan on Sep 01, 2009 01:12 PM

One would generally find out of dozens and dozens movies getting released in a month, if we have to believe rediff movie reviews, hardly 1 or 2 is superhit. See, even a very good movie like Kaminey is just given average by BO verdict. Then I wonder, how come so many movies are getting released, so many actors being paid such a huge money, where r all the money coming from. Seems the entire India's money is rotating in Bollywood only. Income Tax people has no brains to understand that. Other part, inspite of so many movies getting flopped still directors and team are not putting effort to find good script, have good music and make a good movie.

Bollywood depends on South
by srinivas on Sep 01, 2009 12:53 PM  | Hide replies

NO Bollywood movie is taken without a single technician or actor from south.all big movies of bollywod like ghajini, wanted,OSO have south technicians and actors

whereas in the south indian films u will rarely see a north indian technician or actors except for the heroines.

this shows the talent and quality in south india in film making

the 'south' is a very big territory of india. People from all over India come to mumbai to work in film industry. But because of language barrier, people from south can contribute well in technical part. That's why you find more south people as technicians.
And this trend has been going on for several years now. Therefore gradually people from south have become good technicians.
Therefore whatever you are saying, can be partly true...

In every field, (not only film industry), producers/manufacturers need experienced technicians at economical rate.
People from south do get enough experience in south indian film industry. But they are comparatively cheaper than a technician with same experience in bollywood. That's why there may be more technicians from south.

You are living in a fool's utopia. South technicians are dominant only if the director or producer of the movie is from south(e.g: Ghajini). No bollywood big banner ever hire south indian technicians. Go and watch the credit list of technically brilliant big banner movies. Have you ever seen a southie technician in Jodha Akbar, or Dhoom 2?

by mayank jain on Sep 01, 2009 01:48 AM  | Hide replies

Rediff is giving wrong info here as Kaminey is a Hit movie as it has shown second biggest collections after Love aaj Kal. It has earned what they invested so its a HIT and not just an average movie. Even due to its low cost and Good opening in smaller centers Life Partner is also a Average movie as per its collections. I think the people in rediff are extrimists as they never give average rating to any movie either they give very good or very bad. I have a request with them pls check ur Data carefully because it will ruin ur image.

thus BO verdict tell u the quality of a movie?...some of the worst films have been biggest hits...Kaminey is zillion times beter than those..thiose who r complaining abt camera movements r used 2 bollywood no brainers...or probably saw pirated cam prints...

aniway vinod mirani always gives unfair verdicts...form him flop means avd & avg means hit...
