Bollywood is the carbon copy of Hollywood
by Jackie Flown on Apr 13, 2009 02:10 PM

Bombay Hollywood = Bollywood

this is the equation to be shown when asked about Bollywood, which only imitate Hollywood or Korean in every steps. They have no sense of creativity in entertainment. All filmmakers are nuts....

its wrong..they coined the word bollywood to..(say)...make fun of us. its actually a 'B' for Bombay replacing the 'H' from Hollywood.its an informal name given to the popular Mumbai-based Hindustani language film industry in India. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to the whole of Indian cinema.

The name is a portmanteau of Bombay (the former name for Mumbai) and Hollywood, the center of the American film industry. Though some purists deplore the name, arguing that it makes the industry look like a poor cousin to Hollywood, it seems likely to persist and now has its own entry in the Oxford English Dictionary.
still many actors like Amir n Amitabhji don like the word bollywood.

Too much
by Hasmukh Gandhi on Apr 13, 2009 01:14 PM  | Hide replies

The writer has gone to pathetic level to defend the virtual insult of Indian creativity on some flimsy grounds. The only reason why our producers copy hollywood, is simple. They don't have confidence in their creaitive ability and writers point of view. Copying Hollywood get them readymade finished product and they don't need to bang their heads, or what they call brain storming session(?)....come on face it....U don't deserve to be here if u don't have your own poin t of view or prepared to work for the magic of cinema. We don't have producers here but assemblers who make writers to be fitters and carpenters....damn it...

Roadside Romeo

I think I saw a hollywood version of this movie advertised for a time on TV. Don't know why they took it out of circulation, perhaps because it was at the same time as 'Beveyly Hills Chihuahua'.

Anyways, There is this bit of news 'captors had freed Satish Anand, a renowned filmmaker kidnapped about six months ago ......Anand is a member of Muslim-majority Pakistan's small Hindu community and the uncle of Juhi Chawla, a Bollywood actress and beauty queen......'

Has India made a case for this abduction?
I think BJP should make a huge hue and cry about abductions in Pakistan.

Don't blame Hollywood
by Nazir Patel on Apr 12, 2009 05:53 AM  | Hide replies

I will not debate your article but would like to mention that if Hollywood came financing Bollywood films but if Bollywood churned out garbage - bad scripts and bad acting - bad end product - stop blaming Hollywood financing. Saawariya and Chandi Chowk to China were flops because they were bad. Why should Hollywood try to understand our films ? They decided to finance and the rest is left in the hands of those in Bollwood who are supposed to know about Indian film making. Example: Sanjay Leela Bhansali is supposed to know something about quality film making having given hits before. So Hollywood in financing Saawariya lives it in what it believes is in the hands of a talented director. But unfortunately he makes a movie practically on one set - all dark and the characters run around on this one set amidst dark background. The love story is weak. So inspite of good music the movie flops. Chandi Chowk to China is made on many varied locations and no expense is spared but the antics and a weak plot means that audience is not impressed. If a foreign entity wants to open a chain of Indian restaurants in India and they want to finance wouldn't they live it to Indians who understand the tastes of Indians - would the Indians like to be told by the foreign investors as to how to make the Tandoori Chicken ?

Well its simple they know there is a market here and want to cash in.In the future if these american studios try to impose their dirty american rules in India maybe we should all purposefully pirate their movies more.
