this is one of the best or arguably the best musicals i have ever seen in mylifetime... and believe me i have seen a lot of them....... matthew have no bussiness degrading such a fine work of art........( may be he wrote the review without watching it or with a preconcieved notion that pierce brosnan cannot sing........) all the cast does a wonderful job , the story line is good and the songs blends wonderfully with the story........ the movie brings out so many wonderful emotions we go through in our life( youthful love, relationship vith our loved ones, our dreams as child, parents love for children etc) and most importantly to look at life as a wonderful journey to be experienced no matter what we go through, rightfully summed up in the song 'when all is said and done' by pierce brosnan( actually i was blown away by his singing skills, him being a bond )....... so all you Lovers of LIFE ........ go and see the movie. don't miss it for anything... its wonderful.. am glad Hollywood is making such good musicals and MAMMA MIA should not even be compared to bollywood movies( most of them are crap with songs out of context with the movie many a times and bad acting) ........... so LONG LIVE MAMMA MIA........ HATS OFF TO YOU. The world needs more movies like this.

Compared to cheap rated gimmicks, comedies and dances in the movies here in India, I think this movie is the best.

How can you review a film by taking an angle that does not exist? Over here in USA, people hate musicals more than anything else. Yet Mammamia has done wonders. Reason: Audience know what its about and what to expexct. With that what they are getting is just superb.
Its a great celebrations and perhaps this concept is a bit alien in India.
But for crying out loud, review something that is actually there and not what you thought it would be?

Misplaced then?

Well if you dislike ABBA music, musicals and Pierce Brosnan, you wouldn't have liked the stage musical either. It was equally silly and plotless.
Fact is you have to review a movie from its own artistic perspective and what it is trying to be. If you shudder at the sight of blood spurting, you'd hate pulp fiction (which i love) and if you don't like violence served up funny, you'd hate snatch (which is great too).
While this movie has it's deficiencies, you would enjoy it if you can get into it's generally superficial feelgood sentiment and tap along to Abba. Several people in the theatre that i went to were singing along. The production quality could have been better, Pierce Brosnan in specific could have looked more believable while signing. Some plot lines shouldn't have been so abrupt. But the rest was fine- at least in so far as being true to its spirit was concerned.
If you can give a good review to Singh is Kinng inspite of everything, you really have no business lampooning Mama Mia.

Well, if you look at the "logic" part of movies, then 99% of them are trash. I, for one, could never understand how Dark Knight's Joker could control such a vast network of hoodlums (almost like the Gypsies dedicated to Dracula). Yet, the movie succeeded in pulling the viewer into the story. (Check out what Robert Downing Jr said about the script - I whole heartedly second it).

However, this is about Mamma Mia, and I (yeah, a Male and having no doubts whatsoever about it) saw it twice in Germany and the audience were singing, feet tapping, laughing and crying with the characters. I felt the movie had a definite feminine flavor, but also loads of energy & vibrancy. Don't bother about logic (how come a Greek girl behaves like an American School girl types)and just enjoy it for the music, energy and emotions.

Let not any burger or berger question your manhood just coz he has doubts about his own and feels that choices such as movies, color of shirts etc., decide one's masculinity.

Watch Mamma Mia guys, even if it is stupid, it is FUN !!!
