3 cheers to rahman,hiphiphurray!
by max on Jan 13, 2009 03:03 PM

Why only Danny for slumdog, one mr adiga , the likes of arundhati roy ,kiran desai ,u & me also can be heaped honours for portraying India distastefully. While there is no denying the poverty & filth that ruins India, these people mock upon them for definite western approval. Vilification not empathy of India's misery is these people's claim to fame!
but i congratulate rahman for good music and the resultant award ,congratulation!

I do wonder how it can be counted in the great films category??? So many Indians films have been made where the hero searches for his childhood girlfriend and finds her in a brothel. Worst of all is the bollywood type dance at the end credits.

Atleast if the hero speaks in Hindi, it wud have sounded logical whereas since he is British born his accent doesnt suit a slumboy in Mumbai.

Pathetic and an overrated movie.

Guys the golden globe awards is for movies made by england or American production houses..
An Indian will always fight for Param veer chakra and not for Medal of Honor..
Similarly Indian films should fight for National awards not Oscar...
Here we praise ARR for his contribution in that Film since he is Indian..
This is just like Sekhar kappor, Manoj Night Shyamalan contribution..
thats it

Ban this movie
by dinesh on Jan 12, 2009 04:23 PM  | Hide replies

This movie was presented to international audience to showcase india in a poor way. There are many parts in china which is really poor but chinese govt will not let any reporter or International TV crews in to thier terrotory. If the director of the movie is really concerned about the poverty in india he should ask the british govt to return the precious and expensive kohinoor diamond back to india which will help to feed this poor people.

dinesh,

More people saw the award ceremony than the ones who have seen the actual movie!

The way Anal Kapoora behaved when the film's director mentioned his name in the acceptance speech was more detrimental to India's image than what is shown in the movie!

Please first ban such pathetic behaviour by punjabi people on live television!!

Nobody is concerned for the poverty of india ... not even the people of india ... so stop passing comments on the movie ... movie was gr8 with a new story. If you are so concerned about the poverty why dont you do something for it ?

See this movie was never made with intention of showcasing India to the western world. what do u think indian tourism deptment is producing the movie?

pls also understand movie is not only abt the hero living in posh bunglow, driving around in imported cars, heroine wearing skimpy clothes, & dancing in Switzerland.

Did anybody else find Anal Kapoora's behaviour at the presentation ceremony embarassing?

I found his behaviour very cheap and pathetic! He stood up and started clapping like he had won some award when his name was mentioned by the film's director!

Why do punjabi people behave like this? Do they have to go and embarrass their countrymen like this in front of the whole world!

Most punjabi people are well-to-do and don't need to show the world that they are important but no matter how much they have achieved in their lives, they behave like roadside romeos and act like fools to get the limelight on themselves!!

overhype
by progress on Jan 12, 2009 12:53 PM  | Hide replies

I have seen it and beleive me its overhyped..
A wednesday, TZP or RDB are far better movies...

And the score is not Rahman's best..Bollywood music has really classic songs which are far better in comparison to SDM..

But the whole issue is that...SDM is made by a hollywood director...hence it becomes a hollywood movie set in India and is gaining laurels

It is a super hyped movie. Not a bad movie, but definitely not a masterpiece. It's getting attention because of good marketing and publicity, and a hollywood director. There are many other Indian movies that deserved better treatment.

I havent seen the movie yet, so I cant say this is masterpiece or not. but definitely worth a watch i think

Not worth in my opinion
by Sreeram Kolisetty on Jan 12, 2009 11:44 AM  | Hide replies

I saw this movie, after a lot of hype from my friend. I saw this movie in US, but believe me, there are better movies that have come in India than this. Has given a very bad picture of our country to the world, and I am sure though to some extent it is true but not entirely. Actors are hardly matured in their acting skills, (especially the elder ones). My friend was attributing meaning to the each scene, and I don't think director has shown with such a meaning (or may be I am not matured enough as my friend to understand the meaning) and can be really attributed. The scene of boy jumping into shit is pathetic, I dont know if it really happens, and sound by the people in theatre really embarassed me.

Also showing muslim's being killed in India. Mumbai is one place which always showed communal harmoney in most of the instances. One of the place where muslims and hindus are co-existing without issues. I want to keep aside Dawwood, Chota Rajan aside when I say this. But overall movie not so great. I don't know why Lagaan didn't make it. May be since it was taken against British. This is one of the best movies, that describes how a man can raise from adversity. Also how a difficulty is turned into an opportunity by an uneducated villager. Lajja is another movie on the attrocities to the women in India and how they are treated. Bhagat Singh on(Ajay Devgans) how the spirit of Indians cannot be killed. These are few, and many more are missing - Sreeram

Basically you dont like it because it shows india in a bad light, on things that are true ? Surely u must be fed up of movies showing india as a glossy place in Yash chopras dreams..

"o shit is pathetic, I dont know if it really happens"..

Does it really have to happen for it to be shown in a pic? The scene was brilliant
(the scenes where muslim were being butchred however really does happen...it happened in gujrat, in bombay riots. There are so many movies that show what muslim terrorists do, then why not a movie that shows how low hindus can also fall ?)

Do you think movies made on NRI's or showcasing senseless issues are the only movies showing real india?
Real India lies here in India.
And finally slums are part of India so accept it as they are and start doing some work to remove poverty from India if you don't like it.

Movie says a lot of positives for India
by atul on Jan 12, 2009 10:20 AM  | Hide replies

1. Even a slumdog can achieve stardom in India. thousands of people come to mumbai each day in search of opportunities and this is for them
2. Dharavi, one of biggest slums in asia has been on a path of transformation for last 10 years and the film shows the transformation to skyscrapers and this is quite an achievement considering the size and the limited extra resources India had during the last decade
3.Due to a great deal of publicity, this movie has generated, Lots of Indian expats and NRI's are sending help, monetary and logistically towards transforming India, and with an attitude of yes we can. With all this help, India will soon rise above its issues in a united fashion

Ofcourse there is quite a bit of bias and exageration shown in the movie and i dont think it is a realistic movie
