Well said.... but Dostana is gonna release soon and that being a Kjo film will soon get him good reviews as happens everytime he stars in a big budget film.
How bad is he??
His work in Guru, yuva etc were appreciated by paid reviewers and awards. People blame SRK for buying awards all the time. What about Bachchans???
Abhishit think acting means wearing frowns, 4 days old designer stubble, and a monotonous look all through the film. Well he looks like a bad photocopy of his father and nothing else.
People comparing Drona to Krissh shoulde pause to think about Dhoom 2. In a terrible film like that, Hrithik left an impact and Abhishit looked like doing 'shakti kapoor in amitabh's film' kind of role. Thats called class.
One sone made his father's production house bigger and bigger.
The other one lost his father all the respect and goodwill among his peers. How long are we going to suffer this talentless prodigal son.

You won't evn believe why dostana is being made. Dostana cast interviews have said tht the movie is all abt miami nd its first time bollywood movie has been done in miami. Nxt, the story has a gay angle to it and overall its the chemistry between the actors as thy all had fun shooting ther, so its a fun fun film.

Whoa!! based on those reasons i can't wait to see dostana, same thing w.drona happened. I ws abt to go first day first show, bt decided since its for kids i better wait for why by little brothr had to say for the movie.

Drona is mainly for kids, finally i wnt in for kay kay since my brother liked the villain more and its kay kay's film thru out.

Its the same case with harry potter, only voldemort is the exciting reason tht i go see w.my brother.

wow guys, hats off to all. This is perhaps the most honest forum I have ever been in. Abhishit has been aptly named so. I saw the movie for first 15 minutes and couldnt take it anymore hence I guess I saved myself a lot of misery.

Goldie Behl’s attempt at making a fantasy adventure film was not accepted kindly by film critics. The screenplay was certainly sketchy in places. And what really nailed the coffin were the songs. It broke the web of fantasy that was being created. Everytime I entered the world of Drona, there would be a song to break the illusion. And therein lies the failure of such a film.

While most of our metro audiences would accept films like The Mummy, the Harry Potter series, The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings as works of art and describe it as great cinema, they are not so patient with Hindi films. When I saw Wanted as well as The Mummy part 3 – Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, I thought they were really crappy. What would you say about a bullet that travels at a 360 degree angle, kills six people before knocking off the very person who fired the gun?

Do our audiences suffer from a Hindi film complex? Why could we not praise a director who has dared to make something different? Why could we not find words to describe the efforts taken to shoot the action sequences or for that matter the special effects?

Inspite of Drona’s various drawbacks, it was a brave effort. Behl has dared. Most prefer to play it safe and use the same premises of love or situational comedy to make a film. And for that I stand up and applaud Goldie Behl and also so that future film makers are not compelled to stick to the said formula and give us the same wine in a million different b

well said. we accept hollywood blindly but when someone dares to make a fantasy movie in bollywood we immediately start looking for flaws. the movie was good i feel. its let down was that we expected abhi to be like krish.
acting was only needed for the villain and the hero's mum. drona and sonia were action heroes. they needed to look like action heroes. however abhi was looking not so good. priyanka was awesome. she stayed in character for every damn shot. very very good. abhi looked pouchy and tired. he should take more effort. look at hrithik and shah rukh. they really work hard to get their bodies in shape for their movies.

excuse me dear, mummy 3 is badly penned by the critics and it's really a bad film. But don't compare Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings with bolywood fatasies. Bolywood is still miles away to make such kind of special effects. Those are good not only because of special effects but also due to their good storyline. But what bolywood does is copying some of the stories from holywood movies and makes a crap out of it. Honestly speaking, I find Drona somewhat like Alif Laila, remember the old TV serial.
Grow up man. we are not holywood freak, but we like quality wor

I think u picked two very bad examples of hollywood movies to propose that indian audiance is biased towards hollywood. Rather I wud say that the indian audiance is now become more demanding. It dosent shy away from appriciating good work churned out by indian film industry. But its now aware enough to desists from digesting any concoction prepared from putting together a couple of hollywood hits.
The list of such concoctions is endless.
Its good that bollywood is experimenting with si-fi and fantasy flicks but any such effort would fail to get appriciation if the audiance experiences deja vu.

Ok, so if i make film about me taking a crap, all the above you wrote would be justified by that as well. Will you applaud me as well for being daring?
Different for the sake of being different gives this film a falsey feel from the start to finish. It means a lack of conviction on part of makers and actors and nothing to do with film being realistic.
Besides Abhishit is worse than his father... period.

Making different I have no issues...lots of fiction movies have been made well in Hindi, so do not make an attempt to compare them with any other languages. Movies like Wanted and Mummy 3 are fictions, nobody argues that they are classics, but the execution was perfect. I bet you even goggled 'curving a bullet' once you saw the movie. That what makes it different as compared to a childish attempt like this. Audiences do not define the quality of a movie, its the commitment from the creative team. Shoddy work doesnt equate to a bad movie. Behl has dared...yes.. to make a crappy film.

Well the whole krish series ws also taken from ET and spiderman, superman movies.
Bt, people accept b/c it those 2 movies ar first of its kind in tht genre to come out from bollywood.

Majority of the audiences liked only hrithik roshan and no one evr commented on the story or plot, bt thy liked the superhero charisma of hrithik roshan.

Its time evn hrithik know tht his movies ar being liked b.c of his looks, dance, and bringing the movie alive for the sake of kids arnd the country.

If drona is being compared to krissh, thn people can't accept another action hero film on the same lines of multiple speical effects, cool costumes etc..

One krish is enough for tht and audiencs trust rakesh roshan and hrithik to deliver their comic powers, not goldie behl and abhishek bachan.

Sorry to say standard of a superhero set by Hritikh are difficult to match, better if abhishek understands he has his own niche in the industry and keep to it, anyone doing the hero stuff is sure to be comapred to Mr Roshan, well either match up to him or stick to your genre, u are being appreciated why to go bonkers Mr Bachhan Junior oer what is not your forte

What is Sukanya Verma thinking? Not much when she was watching the movie. 2 1/2 star for this? Not more than one star. Looks like she wants to be in the good books of the Bacchans or the producer?
The movie reminds of the Zorro comics. Also the spy kids. Lot of animation than acting. KK's talent is fully wasted. Abhishek has not done much acting, not his fault. There is nothing much to act.
The producer has to pay janata to watch the movie. Complete sham!

Drona is not that bad of a drone!
by LoLa on Oct 05, 2008 07:29 AM

Gustaki Maaf! Overall, I didn’t think the movie was all that bad. The costumes were great, most of the SFX didn’t look amateurish and the characters looked like they knew how to weild a sword in the fight sequences. It seemed like there wasn’t too much effort put into the dialogue department but I guess Priyanka’s sexy avatar and Abhishek’s jaded look made up for it. I thought that Kay Kay was at his flamboyant best even though his protrayal of Riz had a strong undercurrent of Willy Wonka.

Drona did, however, have its moments that made me cringe. Like how it started with the whole Harry Potter hangover and never quite recovered from it. The songs seemed too “thrown in there for commercial value”.

But… all in all it is an alright film if you want to escape into the realms of fantasy for a few hours.
