Incomparable Rafi saab
by mustafa burhani on Oct 10, 2008 11:42 PM

The title gives the message that it was becoz of MAhendra KApoors Competition Rafi Saab sang so beautifully, wht a PITY ?

before Mahendra kapoor started his careee Rafi Saab had already sung memorable songs in Movies like BAiju BAwra, MughalEAzam,HumDono. So we cant compare Kishore Kumar or MAhendra Kapoor to RAfi Saab

And saying of PAtriotic Song can Anyone please tell me a song with more patriotism than " KAR CHALE HUM FIDA from HAQEEQAT or JAHAN DAAL DAAL PAR SONE KI CHIDIYA "

so please Stop comparing those Great singers who r not here to defend themselves

The headline and the content is somewhat titlted in favour of Mahendra Kapoor who was also a great singer but to match him with Mohd. Rafi is just like comapring Raja Bhoj with Gangu Teli. Mohd. Rafi shall be an all time greatest singer and there shall be no Rafi for generations to come.

Forgotten Singer
by Anil Panikar on Oct 04, 2008 09:34 PM

The writer's grasp over singer can be understood from the fact that in the entire article there is not a single mention of Late singer Mukesh.

No Idea
by Omprakash singh on Oct 04, 2008 09:11 PM

I am sorry to say that Mr.Raju has no understanding of music as is reflected in his nonsense article.
His article looks saying as if there was a bitter rivalry between the two great singers. The fact is just contrast.Rafi was the greatest of all but having said this, it is also a fact that actually in the golden era of our film music music directors were so genious that they used to select the singer as per the song.
That is why all the singers were the most justified voices for particukars songs.
Apart from this music directors were lucky enough to have completely differnt voices available to them as per the need of their composition & they used them accordingly.
For example in the film Haathi mere saathi, all songs were sung by Kishore except one and it was quite the right thing as per the composition.

So Rafi,Mahendra

SMART TITLE....
by mohammed mateen on Oct 04, 2008 09:10 PM  | Hide replies

I HAVE VERY LITTLE KNOWLEDGE OF MUSIC. EVEN WITH THAT I CAN SAY THAT MAHNDRA KAPOOR WAS NO MATCH TO RAFI SAAB. SECONDLY HE CONSIDERED RAFI SAAB AS HIS GURU.MAHENDER KAPOOR IF ALIVE WOULD NEVER HAVE APPRECIATED HIMSELF THIS TITLE.

BUT HAD NOT BEEN THIS TITLE NONE OF US HAD READ THIS ARTICLE.

SO IT WAS TO DRAW ATTENTION...TALENT AND SMARTNESS FROM BHARAT

HENCE I WONT BLAME THE TITLE BUT MR.BHARAT WATCH OUT THE WRITE UP YOU WERE KIND OF LASHING RAFI SAAB IN THE ARTICLE... THATS UNPROFESSIONAL...AND STUPIDITY...

In correct contention
by ACHINTA ROY on Oct 04, 2008 01:42 PM

Mahendra Kapoor was a great singer. But Rafi was the unconquered Badsah. He was never on his toes due to Kapoor. The contention is wrong. Only Kishore Kumar to some extent was able to raise some challenge with his popular voice and simple style of singing. But there was no second Rafi. The other performers gained importance, only when his voice deteriorated due to his severe health problems.

comparision with Rafi
by masood naqvi on Oct 04, 2008 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

No doubt, MK was a good singer, but for praising him one cannot compare him with the legend like Rafi saheb. Mahender was not even one fourth of rafi in terms of talent, versatility and greatness. I also disagree with the writer when he writes that Rafi complained to Naushad against giving one of the songs to MK. I would like to remind the learned writer that Rafi was so down to earth and humane that he just could not do so... it was the great Rafi who used his influence to get the ban on Kishore da during the emergency period. He was not just a great singer but a great human being also, numerous stories of his helping others are there. And mahendra Kapoor himself considered Rafi as his guru and idol. Not only MK, but simply no singer in the bollywood could match the range of Rafi. Only he could effortlessly sing a bhajan, qawwali, classical song, ghazal, comic songs, fast foot tapping numbers, etc etc with equal ease. He sang for actors ranging from Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Manoj Kumar, rajendra Kumar to Shammi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, to Jitendra, to even Raj Babbar, Big B, Rajesh Khanna. He sang for Kishore Kumar also.

I agree with you Masood ji..Infact, Rafi sahib was one of those truly gems who would ask the music directors to ask another singer to sing if he felt that someone else would do more justice to a song..Such was Rafi sahib's greatness..The writer of the rediff article has completely gone off the track to prove the greatness of Mahendra Kapoor ji..

My respects for the departed soul of Mahendra Kapoor ji..He was a very good human being..
