Why only Danny for slumdog, one mr adiga , the likes of arundhati roy ,kiran desai ,u & me also can be heaped honours for portraying India distastefully. While there is no denying the poverty & filth that ruins India, these people mock upon them for definite western approval. Vilification not empathy of India's misery is these people's claim to fame! but i congratulate rahman for good music and the resultant award ,congratulation!
It is indeed dark! It is great triumph for south Indian stars. AR Rahman and Frieda Pinto! Indians in India ..get this in your head!! STOP glorifying fair looking women like Ashwara rai and Katrina Kaif ! Get this ...frieda Pinto is an absolute hit in the west who is a southern dissent. She is absolutely riveting beauty, and charming woman!!She is more popular than those two pale skinned woman!!
Why do we always a foreign director to portray the real India. Can't our film makers capture the essence of their own country. Whatever hats off to Boyle and Rahman.
Good movie or not, it's a white guy making a movie about Mumbai slums for white audiences in English - it's revolting voyeuristic effort for affluent-society audiences

I think its our affluent lot who loves to think that such an under privileged class does not exist.
I think this is far more realistic portrayal about India than the one Indian Directors like Meera Nair has portrayed. They were using India to sell there film.Good work...
it's a steretypical portrayal of india with slums, poverty and communalism. within first 20 mins the kid is jumping into shit, literally. thats not art. that's pathetic. its doing well in teh west and europe as something like taare zameen par is so un-indian for them, but slumdog kind of movies are so indian for them.

U havent seen the slums n the lives they lead, so u seem to be unhappy with the potrayal in the movie. That movie is really the workpiece of a genius.

I somewhat agree that the west equates India with poverty, filth and communalism to a certain extent but unfortunately that's the dark side of India, which we can not deny. There is not one but 3 India, one is what we see in the above movie, 2nd is the middle class, which has been portrayed in movies like Dasvidaniya and the third one is the type of India which can be seen in Yash Raj movies. Though Slumdog shows the darkest side of India, its realistic and also it shows that there is still hope, and we can do a lot to change things around us.

every country has/had slum some rose above it, India will also. I loved the movie, the way it was directed, the underlying message.."right now is as it should be" I loved that the underdog won, and yes redemption. its a great movie. It showed that Ganesh, Allah, God, Budhha is great. PS. Taare Zameen Par is also a great movie, autism is also something the whole world understands...
