how about piracy in india ?
by antar jaal on May 17, 2008 02:27 AM

I guess he is making noise in the USA since he cant do anything in India. How come 90% of the home market is in the US ? Say 10% of indians 100 million will watch videos at home (I am sure it is more now) versus 10 million in the US?
How come then 90% of the business is in the US ?

Two reasons: 1 Because Indian Americans are less likely to pirate than Indians in Indian
2. Indian Americans are charged more.

Fix the problem at home first.

instead of complaining why not think about alternative ways of making money that does not make consumer feel ripped of. Who in the right mind wants to deal with DRM or buy DVDs costing $25 per movie?

Mr. Bedi or anyone related with the indian film industry: I hope one of you is reading this, stop complaining and trying to persecute small time shop keepers, I recently bought an orignal DVD at Jackson heights, queens, for $20.00. the movie Black and White, first of all, all Hindi or other indian language films do not release in movie halls, just those blockbusters, the orignal DVD's take almost a year to come to the market (I rent orignal from netflix) for a movie buff like me, this is very frustrating, but there are many like me who are patient, how long this patience will last... who knows, Mr. Bedi, you and your ilk should go to the root of the problem, make the movies affordable, make them available in a reasonable amount of time and see your problem diminished considerably, it is all about supply and demand, I have never in the last 20 years watched a Hollywood pirated film, the need never arose.

Aleya Jung...You have flair for writing and still better addressing the problem. Good job. Thanks. I never actually thought of it this way despite being a movie buff.

considering the fact that it is a stolen script with stolen Music who cares abt the quality of the print??it is just to kill time and it is NOT AS IF the Indian Movie-makers are bursting with originality!!crying abt Piracy is again another useless pastime for these Morons with more money than brains! The best way to kill piracy is to simultaneously release DVD's and Videos along with the release of the film and charge only a fiver for the medium! No one will bother to copy or download then! There is NO TREATMENT for GREED!

so well said, but which congress are you going to appeal to for pirating American and European movies and song tunes. All these so called reputed directors/actors(Kalakars)/music directors have been getting "Inspired" by US/continental movie makers. 'Charity begins at home" or let's say practise before you preach, please.
