Animation Boom in India
by MSN on May 13, 2008 12:06 PM  | Hide replies

Indian epics have colorful characters and offer a mix of rich mythology, period dramas and fantasies that are considered the right content for animated cartoons. India has great stories, good cartoon characters from mythologies, good artists and technicians. In recent times, kids have been constantly exposed to hardcore violence and sex on satellite channels. Exposure to our Indian rich culture and heritage is taking back seat. Hope movies like Bal Ganesh, Krishna, Hanuman and Gahtotkach do the needful and kids learn something more sensible.

At the same time, with increase in demand for animators, animation can be looked as a serious career option. It is no Not everyone wants to become a software engineer or a doctor. Infact, paychecks range for ten thousand to over a lac per month depending on the skill set and experience. Plus, Career growth opportunity ranges from In-between artist to Animation Director. Excellent platform to prove your creative side. Let us hope that in the days to come, India will have animation parks, along the lines of software Technology Park.

Ghatotkach
by on May 13, 2008 11:57 AM

I am eager to watch this movie. I remembered discussing exactly the same idea with one of my friend back in 1998 when animation as an industry was not born in Bharat and we have no option than to watch foreign characters to satisfy our desire to watch good animation films. We were discussing that Ghatotkach is an ideal candidate as it will not get into any controversy as usually it happens in our country.
I do love animation films even now and hope that Ghatotkach will not stop at a single film and will head toward Movie Series or even Cartoon series which can be shown on TV.

ghatotkach remake of mayabazar, the classic
by srivas on May 13, 2008 11:46 AM  | Hide replies

Mayabazar is the greatest telugu film in the year 1957, which ran for 100's of days. Today also, perhaps this is the only film, which if you continuously watch 3 times a day, you will not feel bored. Such is the movie. NTR as Sri Krishna & A Nageswara Rao as Abhimanyu, the great telugu actors, Savithri, S V Ranga Rao as Ghatotkacha,(is the main highlight) Relangi, the comedian, Gummadi as Balarama, CSR as Shakuni, all talents are irreplaceable and cannot be replicated. Even Hindi film actor Raj Kapoor had seen this film and was perplexed and astonished in those days. Singeetham has decided to music direct the film by himself. I do not know how it is going to be with these singers now, because in mayabazar great melodious songs were sung by stalwarts like ghantasala and was further music directed by the Great Ghantasala Venkateshwara Rao, who was the greatest playback singer and i feel singeetham cannot create such sensation.

Yes, correct. The film is a telugu film, subsequently made in tamil and other languages, where also it is equally hit. The great ghantasala is music director and singer in tamil also. Singeetham, cannot create any music sensation even to the extent of 1/10th of the great ghantasala.

Way to go though...
by on May 13, 2008 11:38 AM

its good that we are on our way to the world leaders in animation and we have got lots of folk and mythologies with us.I have great respect for Singeetham Sreenavasa Rao and love his movies, but we should stop copying the west and develop our own style of animation. I have seen the trailers of Ghatotkach and noticed that most of characters are modeled on disney characters, you easily identify a snow white or robinhood in some of the characters and also some of the scenes are direct lift of Lion king.
One more thing I could not understand was some part the trailer is in 3-D animation and some is in 2-D, anyone have any idea as to why this is so.My views are based on the trailers shown on TV and I sincerely hope the Cannes audience are not disappointed .

Maya Bazaar
by Madhusudhan N.R. on May 13, 2008 11:33 AM

If anyone has not seen Maya Bazar, try to get it and watch. It is probably one of the all time great Indian movies. If you can follow Telugu, watch the original with the fabulous star cast. Every actor fitted the role perfectly. NTR as Lord Krishna is unforgettable and so are Ranga Rao as Ghatotkach, Nageswar Rao as Abhmanyu, Savitri, Ramana Reddy, Relangi... the list goes on...An amazing movie....

sangitam rao's effort
by bala sreenivasan on May 13, 2008 10:55 AM

Good news for all parents worried about the obsession of their kids with Donald duck, Mickey Mouse, Scooby doo and such alien cartoon figures far removed from our culture. A laudable effort from a very good veteran director.
Incidentally, he directed Kamal's first home production, 'Raja Paarvai'

Ghatothkach and Singeetam
by on May 13, 2008 09:30 AM  | Hide replies

What a revelation this is going to be. Arguably the greatest Telugu/South Indian movie of all time, remade in animation by a disciple of the director of the original, must really be good. I can not wait to watch this. Good to hear that many more people will be able to watch this in several languages. Congratulations.

Yes, indeed commendable. Mayabazar is the greatest film of telugu in 1957 with all type of talents, NTR, Savitri, SVR as Ghatotkacha. Irreplaceable film. The Music Direction for the film was by the Great Ghantasala, the greatest playback singer. For this film, singeetham has chose to music direct. Should be seen how it fares.
