Yeah he was Great ... but Carter Road will forever remain Carter Road.
Warden Road, Peddar Road, Altamount Road are still just that you see because Cabbies and Bus Conductors of Bombay (SS and MNS insist on Amchi Mumbai ! ) think you are from UP/Bihar if you call them by their re-christianed Indian names.
Old is Gold.
There are countless road in Bombay like TPS Road No 4 or JVPD Road No 7, still, but some want to obliterate "our" past with such false heritage such as this one -- Naushad Ali Marg.

We then discovered that gradually, the names of our roads had been changed from the original.
They had been given new Indian names ... yet another, subtle, way in which these people were gradually obliterating our past, and remaking it in an image of their choosing.
Naushad Ali, a great musician though died three years ago but his music is still alive & will remain so for another twenty decades. He was a legendry figure very popular in cine world. He was a man of few words but will be remembered for long for is generosity & gentle manners. He was recipient of the most famous Dada Saheb Phalke & Padma Bhushan awards.Let us join billions of his fan-followers to pay our homage to him!
In my opnion, shanker jaikishen were much better than Naushad or for that matter any of the past or present breed of music directors. They were to music composition what Lata is to singing.
Naushad too was great though but not the greatest.

You are biased here. If Naushad was not that good why Raj Kapoor would like to have him compose music for his film. Everyone know Raj Kapoor had great taste of music. No doubt he is not the only one who gave sweet tunes to India Films. There were people like SD Burman, Shankar Jaikishan, Madan Mohan and many more. But he definitely will fit into 5 legendary composers of India lists.

thinking varies from person to person, when it is your turn to rename the road you may rename it as per your choice

Anusha you have very little knowledge of Indian film music and its history. There were great composers. The lists starts from Late Anil Biswas, who was so good in composing sweet tunes and later Naushad joined the lists, alongwith Shanker Jaikishan, SD Burman, Madan Mohan and many more

here we r not comparing any one, author wants to say that after lot of struggle naushad got success and he gave lot of melodious songs to film industry which still people like hear,,,,,, Salute to u sirrrrr...
The article says that Naushad came to Bombay in 1937 following diff of opinion with his father. It is not correct. He came to Bombay many years earliar and he was playing the harmonium in amovie theatre sitting in front of the screen, in a pit looking upward on to the screen, because in those days movies were silent. The first talkie "Alam Ara" was released in 1931 and when talkies were produced in large numbers he became jobless, only for a short time, and he got job as a junior music composer with 'Bombay Talkies". He learned western there from Saraswati Devi, the Music Dept chief there and he was assistant to Khemchand Prakash. He got his first break as independant composer for "Prem nagar" in 1940. I consider "Mughal-e-Azam", "Baiju Bawara" "Leader" and "Kohinoor" were his best, if you ask to single out one song my choice will be "Dil thodnewale "' from "Son of India". The walls of heaven may be ringing with his brilliant music.
Naushad belongs to the stratospheric heights of music where few can reach. Let me give you a glimpse of another aspect of his personality. He was talking at an event not too long ago and he mentioned that the bhajan, "O duniya ke rakhwale, sun dard bhare mere nale" was written by Shakeel Badayuni, composed by Naushad and sung by Rafi - all Muslims. All secular Muslims and deeply respectful of Indian and Hindu culture and classical music, much of which is based on spirituality.
Naushad jis music was not having lots of varieties and flavour like other legendery musician. Infact his most of the songs was related with mughal type of movie.

Capt. you knowledge seems to be very poor and limited only to military band. Ofcourse Naushad has a place in the list of great composers, that no one can deny. Mughal period music didnt have those tunes like "mohe bhool gaye sanwarya" or many more tunes of Naushad. He was great composer and he will definitely remain in the list of greats of Indian composers.

Mr. Jack
Aryan era was the most worst and horrendeouis for Indians, where as Mughals has give great development and lived here as their Home. If they were that bad then why dont you demolish all the Historical Monuments built by them as you u have demolished Babri masjid. Whatever Muslims given Music,Nukes,Sattelites and above all "Taj Mahal".

We had lot of great music directors who gave us a variety of songs. Naushad had his style, classical and folk music of UP,Madan Mohan was superb im creating melodies,OP Nayyar was the king of rytham,Salil had typical Bengali style brilliantly mixed with classical western, Burman dada was excellent in everything but his forete was folk, I dont know how to describe Roshan's (not Rakesh Roshan but his father) music, he was truly great. We had lot many more good musicians. If somebody says that Naushad's music lacked variety I don't rally understand what he means. Naushad could not have composed like OP and OP could not have scored like Naushad. All those compositions from various music directors of the "Golden Era of Indian Movie Music" give us great variety. Naushad at the age of 80 composed music for a malayalam movie by name "Dhwani", each one of the songs is gem.One song in particular "Janaki jane ...Rama" may be the best ever song on Rama. Not two songs of him are similar, in the tune or the background score,he had so much reserve in him.
