Today I saw in the TV, Deepika kissing Ranbir in public. Well, as an Indian, I would say that it was quite vulgar. I used to feel that Deepika is a very down-to-earth person rooted in Indian values. She herself used to say a lot about her traditional upbringing and so on. But now it seems that she is contradicting herself by her behaviour.
In my opinion Angelina Jolie is the most talented model-turned actress.
My list--INDIA Note:No Deepika--1 film old that too with her voice dubbed by someone else. Only the more famous and younger model-turned actresses are on my list.
Number 7--Priyanka Chopra Disappointing actress! Needs to improve fast otherwise shes....GONE!
Number 6--Katrina Kaif A few films old but already showing improvement. I'm impressed!
Number 5--Lara Dutta The only good thing about Jhoom Barabar Jhoom apart from the music was Lara Dutta's performance. Impressive! Is improving and definitely has a bright future.
Number 4--Aishwarya Rai Really overrated. Didnt deserve any awards.Filmfare like almost all the others gives awards on the basis of star power and box-office success of films. NOT FAIR!!! But her more recent performances in Guru, Jodha Akbar and especially Raincoat were good. She has definitely shown signs of improvement lately.
Number 3--Dia Mirza Underrated but actually never performed badly. In films like Tehzeeb and Dus Kahaniyan she was really good.
Number 2--Gul Panag Manorama and Dor have shown that shes truly a gifted actress.Very underrated.
Number 1--Sushmita Sen Underrated as most other actresses with a lack of box-office success but she's a true diva and supremely talented. Started off with an ordinary to average performance in Dastak but since then she has improved like no other actress. A truly deserving Number 1 model-turned actress.

The Acting style of Aishwarya Rai is to stare, vacant and wide eyed at the camera and to generally imitate Bambi (maybe this resemblance to deer is why Salman Khan took such a violent interest in her?).
Look at her films, its the main silent screen 'Mary Pickford' type approach - all the way through she aims to look helpless and pitiable. Of course this is *hugely* appealing to most men (the wide eyed and open mouth looks eerily similar to.. well, the expression on certain life size dolls that can be purchased for use of batchelors in depraved western countries).
So yes, she can act in the sense that she can look helpless and weedy and pretty with nice hair.
As to whether any young woman would actually want to *emulate* the characters she plays however...
aishwarya has had an unbelievable impact whether you think she deserves her status or not. I truly believe she can be a brilaiant actress when she wants, as in Devdas
How can rediff omit the first Model turn top actress - Zeenat Aman. Many trends that are followed by Priyanka, Lara, Aishwarya, et all were trail blazed by Zeenat Aman. She changed the face of the Urban Indian Woman in Hindi cinema. Of course many followed: Sonu Walia, Kimi Katkar etc. but Zeenat's mark has been etched in history. She is not yet respected for her achievements but she will be recognized in due time.
