If Shyamalan want place in Indian's heart, he should become an Indian first
by Murali on Jun 12, 2008 10:58 AM  | Hide replies

The media has recently celebrated the presence in India of this famous person of Indian-origin, who describes himself as the costliest Hollywood writer. Shyamalan was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri by the Indian government. While appreciating this gesture, I would like to point out that Shyamalan has very little knowledge about Indian cinema, let alone India. This was evident when he said he has seen only three Indian movies and ‘the guy who is seen in every Indian film’ acted in them. It is a pity that, being a person of Indian origin and in the film industry, he does not know about Shah Rukh Khan, who has a life-size statue at the Grevin Wax Museum in Paris! The government should have given him an award such as 'successful NRI' or so rather than Padma Shri, which should be given to people, who have knowledge, love, understand & respect of India & Indian culture

Murali Get Real. This poor south Indian origin guy went to USA when he is 1 year old. Broought up in upper middle class full of Doctors family that lived in US in the world of his own. Sort of became more American & cannot blame him,. There many such Desi americans confused. Shymalan is no better. And if he does not know SRK with his life all in USA do not blame him. And Shymalan is into thick Holloywood english stuff. From reading tthe aticle he sounds genuine about not knowing Hindi or Bolloywood movies. Spare him & his ignorance. We have many Mumbai desis who are more American than Shymalan who pretend NOT to know SRK or Ash !!

Knowing or not knowing Shah Rukh has got nothing to do with Indian Culture. The Fact that Manoj Shyamalan has not changed his faith and name despite staying in the US (unlike Bobby Jindal)shows that he values India and Indian Culture

Who said Manoj Night Shyamalan did not change his name? His name was Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan and replaced his family name with 'night', an English word.

Old wine in new bottle

This article is an 'old wine in new bottle'. This interview was old and appeared in newspapers & even in rediff.com when Shyamalan visited India few weeks back. I don't understand why rediff.com re-published it now

Simple, it has Shah Rukh Khan's name mentioned in it. For rediff, that's big enough to publish the material over and over, another 25 times.

I never watch any hindi movie in last 7 - 8 years, last time i saw one crap movie and thought to eat my hair in theatre. I watch tralor for few bollywood crap movie hh.. dont remember name but something like OSO, MHN and I was very upset on kind of cheapness. Present bollywood movie is worst than sitting in hell.
Last i saw Gadar that was only good movie in last 7 years.

Hope director like him can come to bollywood and make some good movie so i can break my fast to watch any good movie.

It is not the mistake of Bollywood that you have not watched a good movie in the last 7 years. There were good movies, but you have not watched it... why you blame others for it?

I have not seen any better movies coming from Hollywood in last 2 - 3 years. Compare to that we have seen some good movies coming from bollywood like Lagan, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Tare Jamin Par, Swades, Rang De Basanti, Nayak, Black. New movies are coming with new ideas. What is your definition of good movie.

REDIFF advertising SRK again and again!

Rediff please stop selling stale bread to people! We are fed up and know that u desperatelt advertise for SRK for nothing but money money money!

SRK is the most untalented superstar Industry hsa ever had! No versatality whatsoever! Just like Devanand!

SRK is more of businessman than an actor or superstar!

Rediffs idea of making SRK a BRANDSHAH is flop!

The writer has all but mugged up this story.
A talented filmmaker like Shyamalan would never make such a bad choice!

"Touches in the rain" - maybe he was pulling at the interviewer. Making joke of such a simple scene which was hammed by SRK's over acting!

I think in bollywood only hritik and Akshay can work in hollywood movie.

For SRK there is no chance to debue in syamalan movie because he makes only horror movie not that kind movie also SRK would prefer to work in syamalan movie if karan can give company in lonely time.

Two very perfect choices! Great choice!
They can make it to hollywood surely!

I remember the British judge in the Miss Femina Awards 2003 saying that she never knew that there was anyone more handsome than TOM CRUISE.

She was speaking about "Akshay Kumar"

Akshay has given spring of flops. In a year he's given 12 flops. But now he's given 5 greatest hit. Its stopped Tashaan. Its happening to every star.

Even Amithab he's started again as Hero in Mritudaata etc.. films. All r bombed. Now he's acted in Main characters in more films.

*happening* will be another flop show...i am sure about that. except for 6th sense, all his movies have failed. this is a useless indian pretending to be a phony american and behaving like a jerk that he deep down is..bollywood can do without people whose memory is so short..!!
let us reciprocate and forget mr.shyamalan and throw his movies in the dustbin where they rightfully belong..!!

This guy makes movies with a very small surprise in them. He should be glad sixth sense worked for him, all other movies were not worthy ones. But the guy dares to talk too lightly of bollywood actors. Even KathaSagar stories sometimes tend to be better than this guy's movies.

I hope M. Knight does choose Shah Rukh for a future film if the story is right. It would at least introduce SRK to Hollywood and wouldn't portray an Indian in a stereotypical way.
