Unfortunately, by the time I was old enough to watch films, Shammi Kapoor's career was on its last legs with failures like -'Pagla Kahin Ka', 'Preetam', 'Jaane Anjaane', 'Jawan Mohabbat' etc. Yet, when I did a retrospective of his films later, I realised what a remarkable star entertainer he was. He was the pivot of all the films that he did in the 60s with the rest of the elements just added as props. Even the songs developed their own identity because they were picturised on him and not vice-versa. That is why they have stood the test of time and have amazing repeat value. The fact that he had the support of top-notch composers like Shanker Jaikishan all the way through added further credibility to his star status.
There can't be Shammi Kapoor No 2 in the future. He has given fresh musical movies to the Bollywood even today our kids are great fans of him. May god give him long life.
On of the all time greats of the film industry. Held his own position when the three greats ( Dilip, Raj, and Dev )ruled. Nick named the Rebel had immense energy and towering personality, had his own dancing and fighting style. Saw his Teesri Manzil continuos for three days. I wish him the best and pray for his recovery from his illness.
I doubt any actors of today can dance and create the magic what Shammi could without any acting training.Todays heros are all show off.The songs of Kasmir ki kali,Proffesor,Teesri Manzil are all immortal, one would like to hear even today.
