Do whatever you want, but don't sign Pakistani artists, actors....search any of the pakistani plays and the way they mock Hindu gods and goddesses....and these are the very artists who earn applauses at these laughter challenges and laughter circuses...until they learn to respect India and Indianism, INDIA SHOULD NOT ENCOURAGE ANY OF THEIR ARTISTS, CRICKETERS AND POLITICIANS.....

Mr. Stallone is nothing but a 'Had been star', so what's the big deal about it. Show some money to any flop actor in Hollywood and who would deny working here. I just fail to understand why our producers should make a beeline to sign up such actors and go ga-ga about it.

by Dhiren Pandya on Jul 31, 2008 09:55 PM  | Hide replies

Huh, im not impressed if they had gotten Tom ccruise or Leo D caprio, Now that would be something.

Stallone has been flopping the last 6 or 7 years, his status has become taht of mithun during the late 90s when he was on his decline, and churning out flops after flops like dajjal, faulad, jallad, insaaf ki awaaz , themes bieng the same (sis gets reped & killed, and to add insult to the injury he get framed, and after being released finds out that his wife was also.... while he was in prison)

No body give 2 shiits about stallone these days in US, Rambo flopped recently, before that rocky was a super flop.

when we indians ever learn, whenever we see a gora we run after him like dogs

the other day when my friend was discussing a scenario if the british never left us, and continued to rule us. he said " india ab tak yaar NY ke jaise ban jaata" . i said arey chewtiyye instead we would have foillowed them to UK and changed them to bihar.

It doesn't matter.

These Bollywood films are horrible and I have stopped watching Hindi films ever since sensible movies stopped appearing.

Has any of you wondered why...

Hindi films hardly (extremely rarely) fare well at international festivals?

Indian films have never won Oscar or cannes?

Only 3 Indian films (Considering the Indian film industry is the biggest in the world) have been nominated for Oscars?

There are so few documentaries made in india which gather international repute?

There are so few short films are made in india that go to international festivals?

Most Hindi films are cheap versions of Hollywood stories?

All the television is either the utterly rubbish Ekta kapoor types or Super hit hollywood remakes (All our reality shows)?

O think, we should stop TV and films at once. Of course, sports too. We're incapable of it.

Indians at films and sports are like asking a blind man to describe the beauty of a sunset. Asking a dumb man to sing. Or asking a deaf man to judge a singing compitition.

Dear Ms. Rai,
To your responses:
1. Hindi Film "Shatranj ki KHiladi" and Shyam Benegal's Ankur were shown at International film festival. Most recently KJ's KANK was shown in Toronto and Devdas in Cannes!

2. Satyajit Ray's Pather panchali won the Palm d'or in Cannes (just one example - you said Indian films!)

3. So, Oscars is not the only judgement for good films ! Stop licking US a**s!

4. I can name atleast 15 documentries which have been awarded - the last in by Assamese film maker - G. Bordoloi,

5. Short films - Yes, I agree.

6. Not the good ones: RDB, Khakee, Lago Raho Munnabhai (remade in Hollywood now) are just some (I do not even mention regional cinema)

7. You prefer Jerry Springer or Bold & Beautiful you mean ?

Its nice to know you type well

Why do you want Oscar and Cannes from the people who don't understand the language. There will be lot of difference in the movie if a movie in one language is dubbed to another language in india itself. It is not the mistake of judges of oscar as they can't understand the feel in the dialogues as they see it in sub titles.

Okay, here's the thing...

Irrespective of all the bullsh*t about sucking up to whities or Americans, we all know deep within our hearts that Oscars, Cannes, Bafta, tehran Cairo, these are some of the festivals which really really set the standards for film-making.

We might try to console ourselves by saying we have iifa, filmfare. But we all know that these are not film festivals of any standards. Filmfare is a sleaze and glamor fest. Any standard will tell you that filmfare is a bad joke on film festivals. iifa is not bad, thoug it's not of highest standard. But you know what has brought iifa down, the same Hindi film industry.

They have started to showcase terribly made mass Hindi entertainers (really?!) in this and they suck bigtime.

My dear friend SURYA, 70 years of film making and almost 70,000 films and you could mention one Palm d'or. Now that shows the standard that we have set in this country.

15 documentaries! For god's sake you must be able to mention at least a 1000 documentaries for the number of documentaries that we produce. It's not just about showcasing in the festival. It is about winning. You don't win, you are a loser, period!

RBD, Khaakee, lage raho Munna bhai, i guess you're not thinking in your right mind. These are lousy, cheap entertainers, how can call them as good films.

Now, is there a difference between cheap entertainers and good films? YES. The same difference between a burger/pizza and a healthy English breakfast! U think.

My dear Malladi, I guess you don't know much about films. Film is a visual medium. Language is the least of the things that could be a hurdle for someone to watch. Now, I'm not talking about common public who can't think beyong SRK, here. I'm talking about people who set standards. Trailblazers. connoiseurs of art.

Trust me. these people don't need no language. They ain't ordinary. They look at the pure art of story telling. And VISUAL story telling.

Surya,

'Jerry Springer' and 'Bold and the beautiful'?

Are you kidding me? Every Ekta Kapoor serial is a 'bold and the beautiful'. And we have pretty much stooped to the level of Jerry springer by remaking the 'BIG BROTHER' called as "BIG BOSS'.

I prefer 'Malgudi Days'.

Now your turn.

There's one more thing that I wanted to say.

People in this country have been blinded so much by the so called Bollywood (Even the name is a poor remake), we are robbed off of the opportunity to watch the better films from other countries.

Countries like Mexico, China, Iran, France, Spain, germany, Denmark, Thailand, Egypt combined together, probably make less than half as many films as we make at less than a quarter of budget that we spend.

Yet, they end up with better filmd and better awards.

And all those Bollywood fanatics - Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi and Oriya combined together make less than a quarter of films that the bigger industries in India make, at less than a quarter of a budget, yet, have better films.

Spend the money wisely. Make 3 films instead of one which require a 50 crore. Forget about stupid costumes, sets, foriegn locations. Concentrate on acting, story, screenplay, cinematography, props.

I can't beleive that Shah Rukh Khan is a star. In my opinion he's unfit to be an extra. Forget about extra, he can't even be a crowd.

I can't beleive that people like Karan Johar and farah Khan are directors.

Give a camera to my 8 year old son and he'll do a better job.

We need to realize, especially the Hindi speaking population that we are a sub-standard community when it comes to Art, Culture, civic sense and education. of course, we're good at rogue politics, murders, goondaism etc.

Please, change ur mindsets, before it's too

KJ's KANK!!!!

It was shown only because there are still hunderds of under-cultured and undereducated Indians who live in these countries (Mostly Panjabis and Mrwaris). It was shown for them.

Ask anyone who knows films and he'll tell you that Karan Johar is biggest joke that god played on Indian film industry. his films are for intellectually challenged people.

There is no need to drag caste into this discussion. The disrespect you are showing for Punjabis and Marwadis itself shows what kind of person you are. Develop a broad base inclusive vision and intelectual rather than just being proving you are better by calling names for others.

Dear Ms. L. Rai,

I do not intend to offend you but I think you are not making any sense. It is good that you stopped wathching Indian movies. But I think Indian films do not need oscars even though they are prestigious.

We have our very own filmfare, iifa, stardust and above all National Awards. Why do we expect to get an award from the country that does not understand our language? And I am proud to say that atleast our films get nominated for oscars. How many hollywood movies get nominated for our awards? None....coz no matter how good they are, they are still not eligible to gain global appreciation from India.

Jai Hind.

Nowadays the quality of Bollywood has gone down.

There is no doubt in that regard.

But Oscar award can not be the only criteria to judge any film. Have you ever seen any of old Hindi classics? Or is there any movie like 'Rang De Basanti',in Holliwood, which impacted the masses so much that ordinary people took Jessica Lal case's verdict to the street and gave the new dimension to Indian Criminal Justice System.

Don't waste money on sets, locations and stars. Instead put your money in securing good story and actors.

What Bollywood is making is nothing but multi-million dollar fiasco.

When will the people like this Nadiawala learn?

I think there's a big problem in Bollywood, that's the influx of Panjabis and Farsis, who are more into style, glamour and show rather than a good commitment to a good story.
