funny movie - did we have a rock scene in india that justifies the imagery ?
by raj on Jul 10, 2008 02:52 PM  | Hide replies

well, farhan akhthar wants to be the jimi hendrix, and pink floyd and other popular bands, rolling stone and stuff. thing is however much they might fancy - the imagery are sadly totally different. yu know love ballads and rock/ drugs/ groupies were totally different stuff. its like trying to ape nirvana for being cool while they'd really dare not listen nor understand the lyrics nor relate to his state of mind, heck, far far away from anything to do with that brand of music !

Hahahahaha.......
lovely my brother, totally agree. These are the people that guys like Jack Black and Mike Myers trample in flicks like Tenacious D and the Pick of the Destiny and Wayne's World (I&II).
These guys can't be happy with anything progressive, from Magik's dawn to Nano in Kolkota......misanthrope in a monosyllable.

what I can understand from above passage is someone named "Raja Sen" wasted important moments of his life.Mr Raja, you would have taken ur wife out for dinner instead of criticising such a unique and extra ordinary movie. at least u would have done sometthing good. you would have played with kids, help needy people. what on earth has made you to criticise such a beautyful creation. u must be some one fake opposite to Farhan Akhtar, my guess is you are some bollywood guy/gal jealous of Farhan.you should have thought at least thousand times before writing this shit. you would have got mess in your bedroom and cupboard clean instead of saying so.why the hell you misused public mass communication medium to have 200% false impact of good thing in others mind. do you know 'M' in music? have u ever hold guitar in your hand. have u ever sung "Sa - the ultimate shadja" in proper tone. u really sound like dead piano guitar with strings of hairs of polar bear.(sorry dead piano and polar bear and its guitar for your insult) in short YOU SUCK.
raja you are basically psycho or very very poor so that u can do such shit for living, i think u will not have money to eat if u dont write reviews for rediff, I will pay you ten times more than rediff for NOT WRITTING such reviews

Rock On Music Review
by Guest on Jul 10, 2008 02:48 AM  | Hide replies

Well I checked out the music yesterday and I thought id start this topic.

Socha Hai:- Vocals are the best in this song in my opinion...drums are very catchy and the intro riff has got this really awesome progressive touch in it which makes it really awesome.the guitar solo in this song is kinda monotonous but its not that bad..and the interlude after the solo with the drum roll sounds really awesome.lyrics are pretty decent..kinda random but i guess its something different and should be appreciated.
overall:- 8.5/10

ps:- i love the way the song ends..kudos to farhan!!

Piche Saat Dinon Mein:- My favourite song in this album. The intro riff is cool and the tempo is perfect, the back up vocals make it even more catchy. The vocals are kicka** . The lyrics may sound lame but its amazing in my opinion. Its better than the usual "mein hoon tera,tu hai meri" etc...the part when "kabhi khud pe hasa mein aur kabhi khud pe roya" starts , the drums start simaltaneously and thats my favourite part of the song. The guitar solo is also really good, way better than the earlier song and great respect to the music directors. The best part from the vocals point of view was the 'ROOOYAAAAA' *growl/screech* towards the end.
Awesome song.
Overall:- 10/10

Rock On!!:- The beginning riff is really cool and then the sudden progression to clean from distortion is bloody good. As soon as the vocals start the song reaches a different level. Its full on madness. The chorus makes you wanna ju

Rock On!!:- The beginning riff is really cool and then the sudden progression to clean from distortion is bloody good. As soon as the vocals start the song reaches a different level. Its full on madness. The chorus makes you wanna jump and just go mad and this song just gets you pumped up. Lyrics are awesome. A true rocker would relate every word with his personal life and probably feels the same way. Great job with the vocals. The solo is decent, sounds like a jazz one. The drums, vocals and the guitars are immaculate in this song. A very good title song and well done to the music team of rock on. (y)
Overall rating:- 9.5/10

Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein:- This is different from the rest of the songs. The clean guitars sound really nice and smooth. The vocals are good. But after listening to the earlier soundtracks you expect something with a greater tempo or ateast in the same range but the lyrics are really soothing and the drums are in perfect synchronisation with the riffery and the vocals.Personally I feel the song is a drag and the same riff gets really repetative towards the middle. Its a good romantic song.
Overall song isnt that spectacular that gets you off your seat unlike the other songs. The ending is awesome though.
Overall:- 7.25/10

Zehereelay:- When this song started I got a kick. I started headbanging and moshing in my room. The vocals are the best in this song. Frigging awesome. The idea of having a song based on 'snakes' is very awesome and to make it sound SO good is quite a tedious task but well done. The lyrics are really nice in this song and the solo owns. The song is short and sweet. The drums and the double kick is really catchy. Its my new ringtone lol.
Overall:-9/10

Sindbad the Sailor:- Okay the first song where the keyboards are prominent. The tune on the keyboard is really cool and the vocals are amazing during this song. The song gives you a good message through a narration/story. The style of vocals is something different. I like the guitar solo particularly in this song because there is alot of change in scales and stuff. The keyboards are brilliant throughout this song. There is a random transition to tum ho toh which sounds pretty ok and even the end 12-15 second solo is awesome.
Overall:-7.5/10

Tum Ho Toh:- This is a soft rock genre based song. Its different from the rest of the album. The vocals are really great in this song. It portrays Farhan's singing ability. I love the way the drums start and the song gets uplifted. Its a perfect song for a prom night or something. I love the lyrics in this song, very romantic and it reminds you of that someone special. Music wise the song is very nice, soothing to the ears.
Overall:- 8.5/10

Pichle Saat Dinon Mein(Live Version):- Love the song. As I mentioned earlier this song is my favourite one. I love the crowd interaction and the way the bass drums start. The part "common get them TOGETTTHEER"..thats an awesome screech lol. The crowd vocals are pretty cool and the entire song just gets me all high. Im in love with the song and lyrics. The vocals are flawless and the drums are fantabulous. Farhans interaction with the crowd is brilliant. Hes a true rockstar. I like the tune of the intro riff big time. I can play it:D. This version is there in the trailer of the movie as well if im not wrong.Towards the end there is a doublekick in the drums and sametime a growl by Farhan which is brilliant.when Farhan sings the "Na na na" part alone it sounds better in my opinon lol. Love the way the song ends agin.
Overall:- 9.5/10

Phir Dekhiye:- Intro is ok. Vocals are bang on. The lyrics are very inspiring. I like the prelude after the first chorus. The short piano solos sound really nice and soothing.Short song so cant really say much about it. Pretty good. Not bad but not that great either.
Overall:- 7/10

That brings me to the end of this huge post ive written down. PPS:- Raja Sen stop writing music reviews and change your career line. (I know im noone to tell u that but its an advice from a music-lover as critics like you are screwing up the music scene in India)
PPPS:- Thanks for reading.
PPPPS:- Buy the cd and definately watch the movie. ROCK ON!!

Dear Naren kudos to you man....I mean could not agree more with you song by song....may be except for zehreelay coz i m not too much of a head banger.....
As for Raja Sen, he better stay back to those movie reviews only. I think he did a pretty decent review of jntyjn....but boy his music reviews suck big big time....
Imagine the music taste of a guy who gives 3.5stars to music of "Singh is king" and only 1.5 stars to music of "Rock On"....

Rather than tryin to analyse Rock sounds and music the guy should just go and catch up some Bhangra disc and gyrate his waist and bounce his shoulders...and of course admire the so called music...!!!!
Untill then kudos to you again Naren....

Raja ka Bajao Baja

I have a feeling Raja writes these trashy reviews so that he can get people to talk to him!!! His review doesn't even merit half a star as that would denote that he has a sliver of intelligence when it comes to music.
My advice to the people in charge here... get somebody who knows what he's talking about!
The music of Rock On!! is amazing. I give it 5 stars!

Do you guys at rediff have a credo check for people like Raja....or does he con you all by talking a bit about western classical music, Helmholtz, and a phenomenal knowledge about Jimi Hendrix and a passion for all things Beatles.

The idea of analysing or reviewing music is not just giving a fair opinion about how YOU feel about the music but also how and why is the music being liked by rest of the people too.

Thoughts??
