Please, i have watched mani's two films w/aish and abhi. Both those actors try too hard to portray their characters sketched by mani ratnam.
Those two actors always fail to give the characters the intensity of a gamut of emotions and persona.
Check madhavan's and bachan's performances in yuva and the tamil version. Madhavan gave the character life and evrything from the physciality-emotions-body language-persona of the characters. Bachan ws just gave this character a loud mouth and had no emotions.
Lots of actors even newcomers like arvind swamy,revathi,meera jasmine,shobana,simran, have greatly benefited from his directing.
These two actors are known for their star power more thn their movies, and the only movies in bollywood tht lifted them up in their careers wer the typical song-dance, melodramatic, lavish set ups,comedy, hyped up films.
In guru, bachan has still a long long way to go to have a movie called by his name.
So far, mani sir's actors have eclipsed his directing and those movies wer called the actors movie, rather than mani ratnam's movie.
Those actors are kamal hassan,mohanlal,rajinikanth,mamootty, arvind swamy.
Even madhavan has still has to go a mile to be in those actors mentioned above status of dethroning mani ratnam, and calling it their film.
A film with ash is ok can be worked out but if she is paired against a flop like abhi then before hiting the theater it will bombed miserabily at the box office, Yes,there can be a combination which can be a mega hit if worked out. ASH- LEAD HEROINE HRITIK- LEAD HERO ABHISHEK- MICKY MOUSE now here Ash will be at ease bcos she could play with his mouse nd do all romance with hritik,ha ha ha.hai na lazawab casting

abhishek is a gud actor man... not best... dont tell that with only one good performance of his(guru).. he has lot lot to prove
Mani, Abhishek and Aish, along with AR Rehman, what a deadly combination, just cant wait for the movie. Guru with this combination was an awesome movie.
