I am too late replying to this review. Watching this film in 2013 and I will love to say its one of the best Bollywood films ever. I was searching for a review and stumbled upon this pathetic excuse of a review. Is the reviewer eligible to comment on art? I beg to differ. I am sure the person will say Ray's Appu Trilogy is a documentary of the poor if he/she was not aware it was by Ray. The lack of critique in the author's writing and evident focus on narrating the story shows the person is immature and not fit for writing a review on a film which is true cinema and not a pot boiler. The film deals with human psyche and fear psychosis. It shows the inert human demons, the fears, the inhibitions and unashamed exploitation of the human form. The story is emotive and true and sensitive. One needs exceptional talent in restraining himself from exploiting disasters and turning them into intense metric montage filled sequences which exploit the viewer’s ability to fathom mammoth outcome in unfortunate events. Usually in such films the hero saves the day. MMJ has no hero; it has no villain (well personified that is). Here it shows humanity as the hero and humanity as the villain. It is as real as it gets and framing this reality in a fiction which leaves you bewildered is solely the director’s credit. A landmark film in Indian cinema's history, I am saddened that A Wednesday received more positive reviews that this. Maybe because that film portrays a more potent emotion,
This was a brilliant movie…in fact one of the the three best movies of 2008 alongwith Welcome to Sajjanpur and Wednesday.
No matter how many awards Ghajni and ‘Rub ne bana dee jodee’ wins, people who understand cinema and powerful performances must watch this kind of movies.
Paresh Rawal’s perfect act of a corrupt cop, someone who moves with the bad system but is actually a good person, Irrfan’s acting without much dialogues, speaking his feelings through expressions and eyes and Madhavan who symbolizes people in the corporate world who are patriotic to the core and think about the nation.
I felt that especially the last scene awesome and brilliantly shot.
Madhavan had momentarily become disillusioned by the blasts and overall state of affairs in India and was contemplating settling abroad like some of his friends.
In the end all people of Mumbai keep 2 mins silence for the people who died in the blast. At that moment Madhavan standing in the train again feels proud for his nation and a drop of tear runs down his face.
Brilliant expression there, perfectly shot and that is what we call cinema!
I cant beleive there are people who can say bad about this movie. Dont know what you are paid for here.
Movies like this need to be promoted. Atleast there is someway to speak to aam aadmi who dont know how to differentiate between a millitant and a hindustani.
A movie reviwers job is an important one. Please be serious about it. If you are not sure then atleast dont override your opinion to the people.

regarding the hawaldar's role, it needs some sensitivity to understand his agony, everyone doesn't has it. a very well made film

I agree. The rookie hawaldar played a convincing role and effectively conveyed the angst. A particularly fine moment in his role was when he rushes towards Paresh Rawal who has fallen, helps him get up and dusts his trousers for him. That moment showcased the hawaldar's filial disposition twoards his superior and his tone was just right.
While we most certainly can sit back and find a whole pile of flaws, we must keep in mind the two main objectives of a movie: Entertain and Communicate. I just finished watching this movie when the Taj/Oberoi began. I can now better understand what is going on though I am hundreds of miles away. I feel the pain, the anger and helplessness.
Aamir was another interesting movie that I watched last weekend. Promote such movies through word of mouth in order to "Communicate" the message. The country is yours, the country is mine. If we don't do it, no one else will.
A worst review. To review this movie one needs a diferent mindset, more of literature kind. When she says this a dicumentary , her understanding of cinema shows. Nithya, you can join "TV news" and make some sccops, thats better for
I watched this movie and I say this is one of the recent best bollywood movie. Not because it traps emotion, but because of its screenplay. It desrves a 4 star and rediff really sucks
