These same guys (Vipul, Anees) made movies which were not based on punjabis, like Waqt, Aankhen, No Entry, Namastey London (only partly punjabi), Welcome, etc. How did they succeed. And if this so called business strategy is the only reason, then y dint dey glorify muslims in their movie, who r much higher in number all over the world as compared to punjabis. Also, do u expect them to make all their future movies based on punjabis only? Its not about business mind, its about getting some grounds to build upon it. Simply understand 'there cannot be smoke without fire'.
If such recognition, glorification, appreciation is given to punjabis, its coz they deserve it (It does not mean that other dont). Whether one agrees or not is his/her choice. And yes, it doesnt matter who is appreciating, wat matters is wat is being appreciated. Whether u agree or not, facts wont change. Peace.

This has never happened before. A film that does extraordinary business all over the country and overseas has bombed in a specific area. Anees Bazmee's Singh Is Kinng is a flop in Bihar, an area where Akshay Kumar's films, from Jaanwar to Hey Babyy, have acquired a blockbuster status without batting an eyelid.
The reason for this incongruous occurrence? According to one of Bihar's primary exhibitors, Suman Sinha, "The Punjabi dialogues songs and dances went against the film. The Bihar distributor paid a whopping amount of money to buy Singh Is Kinng and is now going to lose a hefty amount."
Producer Vipul Shah is aware of his blockbuster's tainted spot in Bihar. "I've heard that the 'Punjabiyat' and Sikh theme have gone against the film's success in Bihar. But I don't understand why. We were aware that some areas would reject the film's USP, namely the Sikh ambience. Surprisingly, the film has done extremely well even in Bengal where we thought the audience would've trouble connecting with the theme. There's really no explanation for what has happened to Singh Is Kinng in Bihar."

Why stop short at the TIFF, I think SIK should be India's official entry to the Oscars this year! I think the Sikh Community in North America will feel very honoured, after all they formed the majority of the audience for this film out there. The movie is doing rip-roaring business. So it MUST BE GOOD!

As usual, Rediff, along with other mainstream publications ignores low-profile films and serves merely as yet another publicity-vehicle for a production house with loads of money. Singh is King is an obscenely moronic film and the makers would have 'paid' to showcase it on Toronto film festival. I challenge them to enter into a 'competition' category!! They will be ridiculed. This being the fact, rediff would like us to believe that SIK is in the same league as films that are competing for excellence. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that Indian entries should be mind-numbingly boring, poorly executed arty movies, but something that's sensible, yet extremely entertaining (like Khosla Ka Ghosla, Johnny Gaddaar, Taare Zameen Par etc.)
For once, Priyadarshan seems to have made a sensible film (hopefully original), and Nandita Das has attempted a debut movie. You guys never highlight these and thus discourage such attempts.
One suggestion for the Rediff Editor: Why don't you add a disclaimer at the end of such features? "This article is an advertising feature paid for by the movie's producer/ star and views expressed are not that of Rediff"

Ratan, ppl like u never understand cinema. U r such a fool to compare movies of different genres. Khosla ka ghosla is a light entertainer, Johny gaddar is a thriller and TZP is a subject movie.
Film festival is not an award show. Singh is Kinng is d most popular film (and deservingly so, its awesum) in last few years. If dey want to include it there, wats d big deal in it. Y r u jealous?
I dont think u can ever understand differentiating in various kind of movies. I'l still try to once make u understand.
Singh is Kinng is one of the best (if not the best) comedies ever made. Plus it has a solid positive message. Its deservingly d biggest mega blockbuster.

Did anyone notice how few articles are there on rediff about singh is kinng. had it been an "M" movie like OSO or jaane tu, everyday there are 3 new articles. Everyone knows that singh is king broke all records for opening week, but that bloody jealous srk and his chamchas in rediff are trying to prevent it from becoming bigger hit than OSO. But they will surely fail as it is still houseful and getting tickets on weekends is not still easy.
