Thanks for the good review! I can see that you have come a long way in learning how to review albums without a pre-fixed biased thought! Congratulations! Just wanted to add one point: 'Dhanam Dhanam' is not a rural song - it is supposed to be sung in the slum areas in Singaara Chennai, which is evident in the 'Madras Bhaashai' used in the song! Then, I wonder why you underestimated 'Koothu Onnu' and 'Kattilukku Mattumdhaanaa' songs. The former is actually not a song for front-benchers but a drunken man's erotic romance with his lady. It would have been handled in a different way with more suggestive overtones if it had been composed by any of today's music directors! Again, I don't find the tune of 'Kattilukku' old-fashioned, as you believe. It seems to be as fresh as its rhythm, to me. Also, the rhythm is not constant. It has beautiful variations in the interludes. It is a pity that you missed to comment on the 'Guru Brahma' harmony at the beginning of the second interlude. Anyway, thank you very much for the otherwise positive review which is fortunately in line with the truth!
The tenor of the whole article is so pompous. I bet the reviewer would not be able to differentiate betwen a flute and a harp and she has the audiacity to pen lines like "let us see how he fares" for a maestro like Illayaraja..
Tunes do not titillate front benchers..it is the visuals.. at least learn the basics before you even think about commenting on the work of a legend.
