If any one understands the language of bollywood, dat means he can understand 50% of arabic, persian, turkish, hindi & punjabi as the most of words derived from these languages.
Real Cheap nationalist Indian Journalism who really feel Bollywood has any standing in the world. A silly Hong Kong movie has far more appeal even with their funny english accent. KUDOs to indians for making Raj Kapoor or SRK real world famous in INDIA. HA HA HA
write this. Quite some time back I read an article by a lady, who I think was a Turkish diplomat. This was in the Indian Express.
This lady, writing with felicity and empathy,
narrated how she, in her travels, had got around
to thinking which was the most watched single film on earth. And the answer, based on her
own experiences and travel, was Raj Kapoor's AWARA. She had seen it when she was a teenager in Turkey, and was totally captivated by it.
"The film was so melodramatic that the melodrama
was its own validation", is one phrase from her
article that sticks in memory.
She kept encountering it, or heard references to it, in her travels around the world. From Turkey to the Soviet Union, East Europe (it was controlled by the Soviet Union, then), parts of Europe, Latin America, and of course, the whole of Asia (this I think covers India-Pakistan (including Bangladesh)Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Far East) and Africa.
Awara, of course, was a marvellous film, with many epiphanic moments. I happened to see the
film in Dubai in the 70s. The theatre was packed
with Indians and (I think the majority were) Pakistanis. The Pakistanis, like the Indian janta-class, were avid Hindi film-lovers. Besides the movie, which was thoroughly enjoyable, I enjoyed observing the uninhibited
laughter and involvement of the Pakistanis in the songs and situations in AWARA. Would love to

I saw Awara In Tukey in ANKARA in 1956 when for the first time an Indian Movie was screened in Ankara. It was taken for three days butsoon on its release it was the biggest hit in Turkey. The streets got crowed on seening the Indians. It was here that both India and Pakistan took advatage of its release. After a few weeks the move permitted all indians and pakistanis and all ladies in sarries free. Saris wrapping classes were conducted for the turkish ladies.
