Kannada had supported the growth of sanskrit, Tamil and other budding languages in the form of Brahmi scripts.U can see and Find Kannada SCripts carved in stones in Karnataka, Maharshtra, Andhra, Bordeers of Kerala and even in Nepal. Even a stone with kannada inscription was also found near Tirchy.(The temple is Poysaleshawaram)in kannada it is HOysala Dynasty. When Muni Agasthya ( Muni Agastyar) crossed the Vindya mountains (Vindya Parvatha) and landed in KODAVA naadu and married Kodava girl (the present MADIKERI in Karnataka). Yes. kodava girls are beautiful girls even today. Agasthayr has given an immense contribution for the development of kannada and Tamil languages. Now also one can see the Agsthya muni temples in Karnataka and Tamil naadu. During that period Sanskrit was very much influenced by the Brahmi script and the way the kannada and Tamil languages also got the influence from Sanskrit language. Forward   |   Report abuse

Ur talking about the 9th century events. I am here talking about 240BC-345 BC. Here my justification about the kannada language is based on inscription on stones and not on wikipedia data base. Because data base can be edited. When Chandra Gupta maurya had visited and spend his final days in Gomatagiri Or the present shravanabelagola in Hassan district., the usage of Braahmi lipi (script) started along with the the oldest language of JAINS called PRAKRUTHA. Even today Scohlors from Germany, Brazil, U.S, France and UK are more keen in doing research on Prakrutha., where u can see the scripts in Hassan, Kalinga desha (King Ashoka period) in the parts of Orissa. If u see the map of India during this period , any one can see a dark continent in south India. During that period JAINISM Was very well developed and one can see their sculpture works on stones, Jain Basadis (temples) can be seen. Do you know still the JAINISM is a one of the popular religions in south India, which is existed only in Karnataka even today. Do you know who were the ancient poets Tiruvalluvar (Tamil), Pampa Mahakavi, (kannada) Kumara Vyasa (kannada), and Jeena Vallabha(he has improved the Telugu scriptures)? They were all Jains and belong to JAINISM. Till 9th century kannada and Telugu were using the same scriptures before Jeena Vallabha. After the Hoysalas drove out the muslim controller,then they reverted it to back to Temple.They loved Hinduism and there is the Kannada script in the temple for that construction.They also contributed a lot to the Hindu temples in TN. RE:RE:RE:RE:Dear Tamilians!! by Chelvarajan Sethukavalar on Aug 04, 2008 04:53 AM Karnataka is the corruption of two Tamil words Karu Nadu.The land of the black soil.The Tamil dialect spoken in that region was calle Kanna Tamil which evloved to Kannda.It is true many people from southern Karnatakawere Buddhist and Vaishnavite Tamils who were chased away by the Cholas.They later became Kannada Vaishnavites. Many Tamil Buddists aslo took refuge in Sri Lanka and eventually became Sinhalas.This is one of the reasons for the prevailing anti Tamil feeling amongst the Sinhalas and many of the present day Kanndigas hailing from southern paqts of Karnataka. The nothern Knnadas are different from them and they do not bare that animosity towards the Tamils.The word Dravidian is a corruption of Tamil.Tamil Damila Dramila Dravida. Old Tamil is the mother of all major Dravidian languages and it is well recorded and proven. Just because a Kannada king rebuilt a destroyed HIndu temple in the late middle ages and it was recorded in Kannada does not mean Kannad is the mother of Tamil.Lots of ancient Telugu and Sanskrit writings are also found in Tamil Nadu so Telugu and Sankrit are also the mother of Tamil. talk some sense. Why has Tamil and Sanskrit been declared India's ancient and calssical loanguages. Because all Indian languages both INdo Aryan and Dravidian are mixture of Sanskrit and old Tamil.Tamil has many Sanskrit words and Sankrit has many Tamil words.Why is it the Dravidian language spoken in Sri Lanka by its native population is Tamil and not Kannada?    Forward   |   Report abuse

However this ancient Dravidian spillover living in the NOrth and East of Sri Lanka is speaking and old arcahic form of Tamil.not even remotely resembling old or any form of Kannada. Strange isnt it so your theory goes up in smoke.This shows without any outside influence all Dravidians spoke a form of Tamil.
