being a mallu, intially i also thought the same.but later realised all his works are frame to frame copies of sucessfull hollywood, hindi movies.Years later he started remaking malayalm movies shamellesly.I feel myself let down by idolising him in my intial years.
True copy cat director

so true!! Growing up, if it was a Priyadarshan movie, it was must watch. But now his movies are just 3 hours of painful viewing, especially fi you have seen the malayalam originals of these bollywood remakes...the last movie of his that I watched was the john abraham-akshay copy of boeing boeing. I heard he made a bunch of movies after that but the closest i will go to them is reading about them and guessing which film its copied from.

yeah his mallu movies were copies of hollywood movies frame to frame, but the diff between malayalam movies and hindi of priyans is that in malayalam the techies and actors were too good.. for eg.. jagathy, soman, lal, raju and mukesh in boeing boeing was just as awesome as the orginal if not better.. the problem lies in bollywood also as the standards of bollywood are too pathectic..

PREYADARSEN SOULD TAKE MOGANLAL AND MAMUTY THE MOLAYALAM ACTERS TO ACT IN HINDI CENEMA. IF HE TAKES BOLIWUD ACTORS FOR HINDI CENEMA IT WOULD BE DISASTAR.

HE CAN ALSO TAKE REJNIKANT OR VEJAY OR OTHER ACTOR OF TAMELNADU AND GIVE HITS.

The difference is simplicity
by Rohit on Apr 17, 2008 04:52 PM  | Hide replies

Why none of the Malayalam movies that Priyadarshan remade in hindi did not become as good as the original is the lack of simplicity.

In Bollywood, heroes have to be heroes with their style, sexiness and tuxedos. Au contraire, in malayalam, the heoros looked simple and normal, without the hype, just like you and me! And they acted superbly.

That's absolutely wrong, highest per capita.
Malayalees all work abraod or even abroad within the country, and send money home. You will find them in remotest corners of India.

That is good though that they can take the challenge to live in forien cultures, although they rarely assimilitate, they will take their supplies of idli rice along with them, whereever it be.

who wants realistic movies, anyhow if I want realistics movies watch some wonderful Hollywood movies by great directors and great actors Forrest Gump American Beauty Dog Day afternoon. Realism in malayalee movies lol, I guess on an average there will be 5 songs in any malayalee movie, dont tell me that is realistic. Just because Malayalee movie cannot afford the big budgets of neighbouring Tamil/Telugu film industry you want to paint the malayalee film industry as being realistic.

RE:The difference is simplicity
by Rahul s on Apr 17, 2008 08:00 PM
Numb nut, Not all malayalam movies are realistic. Recent trend has been similar to hindi and tamil - outrageous song and dance sequences, heroism etc. But there are still many films that come out of kerala that are realistic. Infact in the 80s and 90s most movies were very realistic. Even if songs were there, they will only be in background (similar to hollywood - what you call realistic) and move the story fwd.

Secondly, you dont need big budget to make good movies. And as far as hollywood being realistic, yeah most of the hollywood action flicks are so real, especially bruce willis saving the world ones. You mentioned Dog Day Afternoon - beautiful story and very well made. My dear friend, there are innumerable movies in malayalam made with same realism. I am saying because I have seen them. I dont need to lie.
Its just for your info. Watch movies made by Padmarajan, Bharathan, Srinivasan, Sathyan Anthikad, Sibi Malayil. These guys have made some of the best movies I have ever scene in my life. (And I am a movie buff by the way and watch good cinema irrespective of language).

very true rahul and u hav not mentioned names who take movies in the so called art genre like syamaprasad, adoor, tv chandran, shaji n karun and many more.. the kind of thinking and analysis required for those movies outdoes any kind of movies taken in india.. so sad that class cant be appreciated by mass.

People always like good comedy. Priyadarshan has the capability to make good hits. Although, he remake it from malayalam movie, it is worth watching... Malayalees who know hindi even watch both versions. Keep going Priya.
